icon Architecture Board Index (+6)
I have been tearing through the Architecture board lately, and I have found many holds! They weren't uploaded, seemingly forgotten, so I upload them to this thread. Forgotten Architects, weep no longer! This list is organised by architect's first letter and hold name.
If your hold is on here, and you don't want it here, PM me or post on this thread .

It would be great if the architect could say whether their hold is abandoned, a work in progress, or is on the holds board. Then the architect or anyone who knows could do a tiny review like "seems complete" or "many broken rooms".

I'm pretty sure these are abandoned, cuz they are from 2003. Yeah, and I'm also accepting descriptions of the hold.

Almost all the rooms from both of my The Dreaming holds were incorporated into Treasure Hunt in one way or another. There may be one or two rooms that weren't interesting enough to make it in. So while they might be of interest to historians, they don't really qualify as "abandoned". I think reading those threads would have revealed that, but maybe not, it's been a while.

Game on,

Arenas and Spirals - By Tscott
Actually two holds.

Bride of the Arena is an Arena style hold with roach queens. I think other Arena holds have been made by others that are basically the same thing. I can verify that the hold is completable, but I don't know if the last room beyond the exit can still be solved. There's two victory demos of that room posted in that thread but neither currently work due to changes in the spawning rules.

Revenge of the Spirals is an exercise in using the editor and an exercise of the patience of anyone who attempts to play the hold. There's a few good ideas, but mostly you're spinning around in circles. The hold is complete and solvable so if anyone feels they must play it they can.

I don't read these threads when I have 250 to post on this thread.
Maybe I should read a few random threads sometimes. They might tell me something.

If you're going to do something like this, you should do a thorough job of it, I feel. Also, listing the threads by page number is bound to cause confusion at some point in the future, since more holds will be added and people might even post in those old threads, thus invalidating the groupings. Alphabetical groupings by title or by author, with the links you already made, would be much more useful.

In fact, if you did something like that, and renamed the thread to something like "Architecture board index" (or created a new thread), and updated it regularly, with the last update date in the subtitle, it would be an excellent thing to sticky in this board. Noting in some way which holds had been uploaded to the Holds board (and a link) would probably be useful too. Your own stickied thread, and a bunch of rank points too. ;)

Game on,

Thinking about it, this could be automated, no?
Generate a page of links, each link points to a thread in the Architecture forum where a hold is attached (based on extension - assumed ".hold") by the thread creator within the first x posts where the creator is still the first poster. The name of the link is the hold name, and any additional info is obtained by x-ref'ing the poster's name to any wanted info/stats.

Oracle example (don't know the schema):
select '<a href="'||thread_id||'">'||substring(attachment_name,length(attachment_name -5))||'</a><br/>', [and any user stats]
where exists(select attachment_name from architecture_threads at2 where at2.thread_id = at.thread_id)
and poster_name = (select at.poster_name where rownum = 1 and at.thread_id = at3.thread_id from architecture_threads at3)
from architecture_threads at;

Hmmm... not quite, but close enough as an example I guess...

Several of these were rightly abandoned, others never got anywhere near completed, while yet others (like Oneiromancer's hold discussed above) were released under a different name or parts of a larger hold, but there are some real gems in this list. Since some of the authors are still around, maybe they can be persuaded to polish up the holds (if necessary) and publish them on the holds forum so that people can download them in-game and get highscores?

(I have Cerebrella Archipelago primarily in mind as I write this, but I know there are other cases as well)

Your own stickied thread, and a bunch of rank points too. ;)

Game on,

Yeah, I should do a thorough job. But first, I'm gonna get all the holds that weren't uploaded to the Holds Board into this thread first. Yeah, I'm gonna rename it soon into Architecture Board Index. Are stickied threads those ones with the gray backgrounds? Because I do like rank points. After I get all the holds in here, I will describe some of them, rename the thread, and umm, update it once in a while. Okay, peace.

I've already pestered Bibelot a couple of times over the last few years to finish off/upload Ricky's dungeon. Last I heard, he was planning (sometime) to get back to finishing it off, so thats good news.

(edit - by the way, theres a couple of holds in your list that have already been on the holds board - phil's dungeon, return to dugan's dungeon are two I can see off the top of my head, but there are a few more familiar ones too. But I'm guessing you'll go through after compiling them all and check them off with the holds board.)

Yes, they have grey backgrounds, and they are always at the top of the page. (That's why they are "sticky.") So if it is a good reference, people will always be able to find it. If it isn't so good, it will just fade into obscurity. No pressure or anything. ;)

Myself, Schik, Mike, Erik, Cramp, and trick can all sticky threads (sorry if I missed anyone, I can't remember if Radiant and googa can do anything outside of their games' forums). But you don't really need to bug anyone specifically, just post when you think it is ready and one of us will probably see it.

Maze - By Rabscuttle
- If I ever finish Tar Ballroom, I'll probably come back to this idea. Larger maze + monsters could be interesting (or extremely frustrating :) )

The Organised Dungeon - By Rabscuttle
This is part of Unfortunate Architect Compilation, so you can delete it from the list.

Six Ways - By Rabscuttle
Some maybe interesting uses of tar, blue doors and green doors. Won't ever be on Holds, so leave it on the list.

Tar Ballroom - By Rabscuttle
I have a new job which isn't the sort where I can spend all my time DRODing ( :( ) so this probably won't be finished too soon. But then again, I wasn't exactly architecting overly quickly before, so the difference won't be noticable.
Hmmm... actually, maybe I'll go do some now.

Jeremy, I don't think this should be stickied yet. At least to me, who is probably going to be the one to do it, you haven't met the criteria. There is no organization to your list...it's almost easier to just browse the Architecture forum yourself than to try to find a hold you are looking for. I think organizing the list by author makes more sense than by title, but some kind of organization is necessary.
