Update - I've just reformatted the list in the first post completely. I think it's a lot more readable now. And far less randomly ordered.

Wow! This sounds like very interesting. I must say I haven't seen this list before, and I really hope that at least one thing in the list of he claims is true. It would be really cool to be able to drag and drop my Simplicity hold onto the game, and it works. :)

I really hope to see it someday ;)

A very minor addition that I believe you missed is that backspace will now also undo your last action in the editor. Here's the post.

Mike has revealed all kinds of little pieces of information about DROD 3.0. (Some people can't seem to stay quiet. Just look at the list :D) I thought it would be nice to have all of it in one place. I probably missed something, but here's what was found from search with words "3.0" and "TCB" and author "mrimer". There's definitely some interesting stuff, and it's worth a look if you want a little preview of some new features.

Click the plus signs for more information about the subject.

All corrections and additions are welcome.

New Objects
+ Pressure Plates
+ Red, green, blue, and black Sister Gates (or 'anti-doors', if you prefer the term)
+ Adders (green serpents able to eat other monsters)

General
+ + Possibility to add new room styles into the game
+ Importing files into DROD by dragging and dropping them on the application
+ + Better UI for hold selection menu
+ Jump-to-letter in hold selection menu (with Ctrl)
+ More information displayed while importing files
+ Rating holds in-game (It's mentioned about halfway through the "Renewing our Vows" part.)
+ Importing multiple files at once
+ Enhanced game engine

Gameplay-related
+ Undoing while placing mimics will go back to the turn before stepping on the potion
+ Locking room edges, so you can't exit a room accidentally.
+ A "battle" key as an alternate way to make repeated movements
+ Three new ways to interact with evil eyes

Editor-related
+ Seeing bomb blast radius in editor (with chain reactions) and in-game (without chain reactions)
+ A better way to handle story events with important timing
+ Copying NPC scripts from room to room without exporting and importing
+ + Improved sound effect handling in a hold
+ Keyboard commands for undoing and redoing in editor
+ Copying serpent-like monsters and obstacles in the room editor

Scripting-related
+ Scripting command: Relative coordinates
+ Scripting command: "Pathfind to X,Y" and variations of it
+ Scripting command: "Die"
+ Scripted user music
+ Text-script conversion

Demo-related
+ + Information about already uploaded demos will be included along with a player file when exporting it
+ Watching 3.0 demos will skip mimic placing parts completely
+ Toggleable move counter while watching demos

Mini-Spoilers
+ Progress bar secrets
Is there going to be a demo?
If so than...
In the demo can rooms change texture's in the demo version?
Cos it's irritating with DROD:JTRH or DROD:KKD demos!
PLZ tell me!

JtRH had a demo version, so TCB probably will...

What are you talking about when you say "change textures"? In both the full and the demo versions, you can add custom floors just fine by importing the picture files.

Not much is likely to change from the 2.0 release. Caravel is a business, and it wants to make money, but it also has an old obligation to release the DROD engine as open-source, including the editor. So how do they make money? Through the content that they provide. This includes the official holds, room styles, and CaravelNet. I don't know what the room style options will be for 3.0 for sure, but the overall marketing strategy is unlikely to change. Sorry Anson, but most games wouldn't even provide an editor with the demo version like DROD does.

Game on,

I really don't think you can consider anything a TCB feature that doesn't ship inside the TCB or a patch installer...

(In other words - no, I don't think third party software counts as a feature of a program...)

np: The Postal Service - Clark Gable (Give Up)

Since we're so close, I'd really like to throw everything I know about TCB from various sources under some unhide tags and see how much I actually knew, and how much of the older stuff got in or got removed. Very tempting, I say.

Yeah, if we start with tar babies, tar will be that much less confusing when tar is introduced - you don't have to figure out how tar babies move, you already know how.

Talking about Ortho Squares, I was in need of an anti Ortho, probably called a "Diago Diamond" to clean up a puzzle I was making in my hold. Dun dun dun!!! No, I'm not going to ask are they are in it... even tho' I would like that or be able to put potions and a Ortho Square down on the same tile...

I was expecting pressure plates because it I already did that in my hold but it was annoying doing it with scripting.

Only a little bit of commentary from me; I don't think the demo of TCB will have a (full) editor. Depending on how generous the team are. *starts scratching*

Why not just make a checkerboard grid with walls, like in various King Dugan's Dungeon level 18 rooms?

It's not just about Caravel's generosity (though yes, they are good folks). Having a free level editor is good for the game, and they know it. I believe there are some good holds around produced by architects who aren't technically customers of Caravel Games. Also, having open source is good for the game's development and bugfixes, and they know it. And if the source is open, of course the demo has features like the editor... just not as much content.

So yeah (especially you, new to DROD and happening across this thread and wondering about all this), I'm quite confident the DROD 3.0 free demo will include a full-featured level editor.

Doesn't work like that since you need to walk on that square. You are just forced to walk onto it diagonally, but the reason I want it so you can walk in a certain direct once you've got it. Being able to but a potion on a force arrow would of worked as well, but that discussion is going into ramble territory... :P

Hmm, can't disagree there! That could be some big demo... I've seen how it worked in the past with DROD 2 and AE, I would consider that many would get the game for the editor. I cannot think of any game that you can buy that has such an easy to use editor. I can't think of any game that you can be easily connected to a decent community. Maybe I'm thinking tight...
Maybe I'm sold already...

I'm also confident, but for completely different reasons:

Caravel is legally obligated to release the editor as a free, open-source download. There's no guarantee that for games after DROD, they'll use the same editor-is-free-content-is-charged-for model.
