I'm still trying to complete the hold, so this is only a partial review.
Stalwarts was very informative, but there really is a lot to say and it's very complicated. Some challenge rooms were absolutely hadcore. The problem is that the points that got me stuck had nothing to do with stalwarts (and more with aumtlich or tarstuff).
Wraithwings is very cool. I always loved puzzles involving wraithwings. I don't know how, but I kinda got the hang of it pretty soon, so this level wasn't very hard for me. It's still nice that now, when facing wraithwings, I understand why they behave as they do.
Aumtlich is a very good level, both for learning and for the challenges. The way of "
hiding"
the secret rooms behind challenges (instead of crumbly walls) is the best way to hide secret rooms in my opinion. It should be done more often.
And the comic tone of the scrolls is always a nice touch. ^^
Speed potions was informative and a nice change of pace. I always like an easier level now and then.
Tarstuff is very exhaustive. I'm not sure I'll use all that I learned there.
I'll still keep in mind some useful hints about gel.
I'm now in Rock Giants. Not done yet, but a bit disapointed. The theory is well explained, but rock giants are like wraithwings : you don't really need the theory (except to feel intelligent), you need hints, directions on how to handle the different situations. And I don't feel like I got those. I'm now thrown in the mandatory challenges and I'm suffering exactly like I suffered on my very first puzzles involving goblins.
We'll see about briar.
EDIT : Hold mastered. ^^
So, about briar. It was a very good annex. The subject is complex but really well explained and the challenges are nice and easy.
For the Giants annex, I needed to consult the hint section of the forum for three rooms. It may not seem much, but it's the first time I actually need to consult the hints to conquer a hold. A hold that was supposed to be kind of a tutorial. That's extremelly frustrating.
And I found unintended solutions in four rooms. It may just be me but it seems my way of thinking is far too different from the architect on this one and that preventend me from enjoying the annex. Too bad.
