I'd like to ask a question.

Due to the extremely promising announcements about CaravelNet increasing in functionality, and also the fact that my one-month trial subscription has expired, the idea of getting another year of CaravelNet is very appealing to me.

However, I'd like to ask if one year of CaravelNet is going to remain an 8-Timer Prize, despite all the additional features, before actually going ahead and spending those 8 participation credits on that.

Not to be impolite or anything (although I likely AM being impolite without meaning it), but now that TCB has been released, you can change the posts involving the full version of the game saying that it's not out yet to that it's already released.

Use subliminal messages (is that how it is spelled?) to make more people buy TCB.

So, who do I speak to about extending my Caravelnet membership as an 8-timer prize? (7 of my contest entries are recorded in the participation thread, and I also took part in the Cheap Tricks contest)

Many thanks if someone can get this sorted!

Will the DROD RPG be added to the Prize Pile when it's finished?
(Also, any estimated release date?)

Those are the kinds of questions that send a developer stark raving mad. ;)

I'd hazard a guess that the answer to the first question is a "Yes, if we can" and the answer to the second would be "We'll tell you when we know".

I don't know yet. We don't have the same distribution rights for Frogs and Mice, so permission must be obtained from GarageGames to offer prize copies. And it's really too soon to make this request.

Permission isn't necessarily needed. All you need to do is buy a copy every time someone chooses the prize.

But then it costs them money every time someone wants frogs and mice as a prize.

It also costs them money whenever anyone wants JtRH or TCB as they get one sale less.

But when someone wants a copy of jtrh or tcb, they just don't make an additional $15. Here they won't make however much they get for each copy of frogs and mice, plus they will have to pay however much it costs.

Wait, now you're counting part of the costs double. Caravel will only have to pay the part of the price that goes to their partners; there's no point in paying themselves their own share.
The costs will all even out to the price of one copy of the game.

True, and I'm not so cheap as to worry about the cost of buying a copy. But the details about how that copy is distributed aren't clear at this point, i.e. will the game require an InstantAction membership, for example? And if the details were clear to me, I wouldn't necessarily be able to talk about it without violating NDA. So maybe later we will have something in the Prize Pile for Frogs and Mice, but it's really too soon to consider it or make promises.

Well... judging by the fact that all games on InstantAction would require an account from what I've seen, yes, it would require an InstantAction account to play the game. Also, it would require some sort of gifting feature to be present.

Disclaimer: I know nothing about this that isn't either deduced by me or publicly disclosed by GarageGames or Caravel. So there. :P

I think what I said before still applies. I'm waiting to see what the best way will be to offer the gift. If it can only be gifted with an InstantAction membership, then I'd have to consider if that was practical.

There's no need to speculate. I can just wait until its easy for me to have these questions answered. And I can't speak for everybody else, but I think they should be able to wait too. ;)

Good choice. Erik was providing that prize, correct? If so, just e-mailing him to request it should be sufficient. Please let me know if that's what you select so I can keep record of it.

Am emailing him now. That's what I select. If there's a problem with it (Erik not replying, or he's not available, I'll let you know and select an alternative one).

I've got an 8-timer prize as well, I've not claimed that yet. I've got all the SmS's currently out, and all the DROD games. Ist it possible to claim a copy of JtRH or TCB for my 8-timer, and donate it to someone as a gift? They're not a DRODder at the moment, but they like puzzle games, so I think it would be an appropriate gift :)

Sure! And then we can work together to help them register their copy on a forum account, if they're interested. I'm happy to help take care of things like that.

Hello! I would just like to thank Erik for introducing me to the Wonderland game on the prize pile. I also "effortlessly blew an hour" on the demo and enjoyed the clever puzzles and manipulation strategies the game provides. I especially enjoyed the Halph-like "wee Stinkers" and the real time play system that keeps you on your toes not too much and not too little. There are many interesting game elements, and the full version is sure to have a truckload more. The graphics are excellent, even if the characters seem a bit happy-go-lucky childish (It sometimes gets annoying to see that infernal smile plastered on the character's face when he's getting blown to bits by a fireplants attacks:)). The puzzle element (at least in the demo) is refreshingly toned down from TCB: Abyssian Fortress :D, and I recommend it for anyone that is looking for a light-hearted challenge after puzzling away at the more evilish DROD levels. I also like the fact that it is download only, so my mom won't throw away a CD that looks like a virus when it arrives in the mail and I get home two minutes later :blush. I thoroughly enjoyed the demo, and hopefully I'll win the full version as either a normal or 8-timer prize (nudge, nudge).

P.S. It would be great to have Eets: Emotional on the Prize Pile. I was introduced to the game during the Caravel promotion of it on the download page and I loved it! (harder nudge) :thumbsup

Since I seem to have participated in more than 8 contests over the years, I think I can put some of that participation credit into getting a copy of Journey to Rooted Hold ... or can I? I'm a bit unclear on some details.

1. Yes, I have 10 contests on the list, but only six of them are after the August 2006 8-timer-prize cutoff date. Although it's discussed in this thread, I can't reliably work out whether I need two more, or have two left over.

2. Assuming I do have the credit I need, I then get to "choose" an 8x prize -- but what exactly does that mean, in terms of how-to? There's a vague mention in this thread that a PM to Dex Stewart is involved at some point, so I could probably just ask him; I'm bringing it up here mainly because there-should-be-and-I-can't-find a clear statement on how the prize-claiming process works.

sooo ... any clues, anyone?
