×1N -- The first time thru, I didn't use the backswipe for the lower chambers and Beethro said "
I guess this constitutes another way of doing this."
So just to see what would happen I did it again, this time with the backswipe (starting with the east chamber) and lo, he said it again. I checked the scripting: looks like it triggers when the player steps beyond a certain point, but it is still possible to use the backswipe (at least for the first move and the east chamber) with the sword facing south. There’s probably a few ways you could adjust the room to force the player to use the backswipe the way you want him to. Since it’s easier to show than tell, see attached option.
1N, 1E/2N, 2E – maybe you could combine the lessons in these two rooms? Or make 1N, 1E a bit more robust?
2N, 2E – Because the gate is part of the bottom eastern section as well, that part becomes trivial to solve. I’d suggest removing it or giving it a separate gate.
2N – Good challenge room that optimizers will enjoy. Was I supposed to worry about not waking the eyes in the lower east chamber? All I did was move them out of the way of the tunnel entrance by going back toward the entrance. Then when I returned, only one eye was at the tunnel.
3N – You don’t need the eye because of the arrows, and /I think/ you meant for the eye to be used to block the western roaches. If so, you need to remove the arrows from the passage and make the centre chamber no more than five tiles wide total, with the passage being 3 tiles, otherwise it can still be solved without arrows or a blocking eye. As well, the checkpoint’s current location on top of the pressure plate is a bit pointless since once you trigger the plate it’s kind of too late. Maybe one on each side, so you don’t give it away?
4N, 1E – Nice room. Though as Chaco mentioned, you might say something about the eye that can trap itself as I think it’s the first time we’re seeing that.
3N, 1E – I liked this. Might be a bit tough for beginners but I think they’ll work it out. (Can’t remember: did you introduce multi-use plates anywhere?) Nice intro into using walls to hide yourself from eyes.
4N – As Chaco said, the way the arrows are set up right now, you don’t have to worry about triggering any or all of them. Once you fix that this will be a nice room. I like that the player has to realize that sometimes it’s good to trap an eye on an arrow.
4N, 1W – Maybe a checkpoint somewhere. Not really necessary, but it is for beginners after all. And the lesson about not trapping yourself might be better reinforced by making the whole centre section trapdoors, only having one trapdoor bridge, but one that is only two squares wide. That will force the player to think about having to leave a path for the roaches. I don’t think you need the arrows on the bridge. But yes, a green door to the south would be recommended.
3N, 1W – good simple introduction into how dropped trapdoors can be your friend.
5N, 1W – I really liked this room. But it’s a bit of a leap from 4N, 1W and might be better coming after 3N, 1W where you show how dropped trapdoors can help you solve a room.
2N, 1W – Very nice. Reinforces the “think it thru” you often have to do with eyes. However checkpoints on the single width platforms should be one the last floor section before the trapdoors instead of on the first trapdoor bridge sections as it's too late by the time you step on one.
Note regarding 1N, 1W and 1N, 2W: I took the long way to get to these two rooms so they seemed out of place coming after the eyes/trapdoor sections. Is there any way to move them to the other side?
1N, 1W -- If you exit the room at 0,7 and then come back in and then exit using the section to the south west, you cannot proceed into 1N, 2W without either restoring 1N, 1W or walking all the way around the level again. Bit of a pain. Maybe make the orb at 16, 3 open the western gate.
1N, 2W – Doing this the right way was a challenge. I died /a lot/ before I caught onto the steps. Mostly because I failed to notice the orb toggled the single gate. (Again, was toggling mentioned on an earlier level? I’m too lazy to go back and look.
) But then of course, I realized I could just stand on the gate. Is there any way to keep people from doing this?
