Congratulations to the winners, and to everyone else as well! My votes were mainly based on fun, with minus points if I considered a hold too difficult for al Dente, took too long to solve, or had other problems (like unsolvable rooms or a terminal lack of checkpoints). Some got lower scores than they would have gotten otherwise because of this, but overall I thought there was a lot of quality holds in this contest, and a lot of variety. It was fun.

(I'd like to give more specific comments, but, er, I didn't write down much, and it's a bit late to go through them all again now -_-)

Btw, some of you seems to have really liked my hold, which really made my day. Thank you! :). Interesting vote distribution there, too.. (Also, techant, don't feel bad for giving it a low score. I know it missed the difficulty target a bit..)

Well, yes :). I didn't do many rooms for JtRH (I mostly worked on the Linux port), but there's a few in there. I'm not really a very experienced architect, though. My 2 cents:

I voted based on two things, could it be completed by a novice DRODer, but would it still be fun and interesting for someone who had played and mastered every hold out there. Which as several people have said is very very difficult. I tended to grade harshly any hold I thought was too hard, regardless of how much fun I had playing it.

For those who don’t like reading (like me), my top 3, in no particular order:

Well I am glad you enjoyed some of it. I am a bit dismayed however by the fact that some of the things that I worked quite hard to prevent(like a lack of saves). The thing that made 2E impossible was really obvious, because I had blocked off the square to step off the checkpoints.

Incidentally, though I did mod Chaco's post up a point, I should explicitly state that I agree with him that all the holds should be included in a compilation (with the exception of (a) anything the author doesn't want included and (b) anything buggy/unfinishable, unless fixed by the author).

It's not about winning or losing, but whether you had fun building the hold for others to play, and whether you brought your A-game. If you brought your A-game, take notes of what people are saying about the hold and see if you can see what they're talking about. It'll make your A-game an A+-game!

You've all swayed me on the excluding entries thing. The thing I was worried about regarding the Lunchbox Special was that people would need to play through all the holds to finish the compilation, and they might not want to play some of the holds. Is this a fair worry, or am I sort of missing the point of the compilation?

(It's a good point that the entries all need to be completable - if some of the entries aren't completable, send the fixed hold to my e-mail address as Anyone Edit and I'll use it in the compilation. Otherwise I might try to fix it on my own.)

If you include two holds, there may be people who wouldn't want to play some of the holds. And there's no law saying that anyone has to finish a hold they're not enjoying, after all. But I would go with the one-central-level method, with plenty of checkpoints, so that it's possible to do whichever levels you want.

So, make the lower-rated holds unrequired. That way they're still there for people to play, but they don't have to if they don't want to. :)

(incidentally, I think that's what I'll end up doing - not wait for architect fixes that won't come, but just publish the working entries)

I'm working on the new version now, and I know I got through once before only to be met with the red door. I must say, I find Wraithwings to be the most random seeming beasties, as far as their movement rules. I just can't work out their behavior. So it's a lot of trial and error for me, and they just seem to advance or retreat willy-nilly.

I didn't get to vote, as I only finished 19 of the entries by the deadline. I will pass along some comments, for those architects who are interested.

Well 'captainzakku' I guess you do not like running from a roomfull of invisable spiders. :fun

I was trying to get that hard enough for this crew feel but simple enough for the average player. I put the scroll just in reach to tell you to try leaving and coming in from a new direction or at least that was the intent of the proverb.

While I resisted my love of labyrinth, to my own down fall, I see now as a labyrinth was the winner. I followed my love of spiders instead. I like how they only appear every other move, and then only under the right circumstances. :w00t

I have learned alot from all your reviews. Did anyone recognize which room I recycled? I belive in conservation and really liked this room when I made it for the Limited Resources contest. I just flipped it around then unlimited my resources and "wa-la". Did you guess it was

As I said, or at least as I meant to say, in my comments on my own hold, I thought making a labyrinth of any sort was taking a big chance. Sergenth and I got lucky that people liked ours (or, well, I got lucky; Sergenth got talented).

Just in case I wasn't clear, I meant the wraithwings in the 'box' in the SE. I can't drop the easternmost trapdoors without drawing at least one WW across the tunnel. I don't have any problem with the two loose ones.

Just to say, I thought your hold had some excellent rooms Jeff_Ray. If you iron out the incompletable rooms and fix where the stairs go, it's a really good hold. I would've voted it pretty high.
