So, is it possible to use the decoy in the north east part of the room?

Not only are they all useable, they're all required. (At least, I needed all three.)
That's not true. I only needed two (and so could sacrifice the NE one).

I know it's piling on at this point, but Great Room! After figuring out how to do it (with help from Jacob), I particularly liked the

Not surprisingly, a solution that involves sacrificing one of the decoys was not intended.
I see that you managed that by killing the adder yourself - I have no idea how you managed that, but nice work. Whether you made things unnneccessarily hard for yourself is another matter.

It was a bit of careful manipulating of the adder so it continued to block the briar while I backed toward the broken wall exit, finishing off the head on the hot tile square. And at least that way I didn't have to figure out the mirror trick, and (just thinking about it now, without trying) I'm not sure how I'd kill the adder with a decoy. Wouldn't the adder get stuck in some dead-end and the briar leave no free space to place the decoy? The proof is left to me to try, but not tonight. ZZZ

Was anyone able to solve Someone Else's entry? I'm trying, and having no luck...

I'd like to see a demo, if one exists.

Thanks!

Well, actually, I thought I could beat it, and then I found out I couldn't...

So how far did you get? I got as far as having killed everything but the adder, and having tar on the pressure plate.

I can do that, or I can get the adder long enough that it covers the pressure plate and could theoretically reach the mimic while on the plate...but I can't get anywhere near the mimic.

Seems like if that mimic were a clone it would be much easier.

Hrmph, no wonder I couldn't beat it. A good way to ensure your room is solvable is to solve it. :)

Remember, kids, it's always mandatory to test one's rooms before inflicting them on others. Even if the others are testers.

And especially if it was clearly stated that entries to the contest must be completable! :)

Maybe it should become a requirment to submit victory demos with entries in future to (a) prove they're completeable and (b) allow people who can't complete them to at least see how they should've been done - allowing them to judge more fairly rather than just abandoning the room/level/hold and making assumptions about how it played out.

Indeed. I couldn't decide how to vote when I couldn't solve a room. Do I award points, thinking "Oh this must be so clever because it bested me," or deduct, thinking "This is needlessly obscure, or perhaps it's broken"? Submitting the victory demos worked well in some of the recent Limited Space contests. It allowed me to vote on how well I thought rooms were made, not merely awarding top scores to those I finished that were just difficult enough, slightly lower scores to those I couldn't conquer, and lower ones to those I thought too easy. :closedeyes
