When multiple swords cover the same square--whether of mimics, decoys, or whatever else--the only sword which reflects an aumtlich's beam is the one of the entity that moves last (unless one of them is the player, who takes precedence). Is this a bug?

Running TCB 3.2.0.83 on Windows XP.
Demonstration enclosed at left.

While I can't say for certain whether it's specifically a *bug*, I will note that it's possible to make a room that is impossible to complete without using a mouse to click on specific clones. (Though honestly, that was the case even without swords.)

Oh! I've never thought about this possibility. I can't think of any concrete changes to make. We'll call this one not-a-bug-its-a-feature unless a change everyone agrees on is proposed.

Would changing this break any rooms, demos or puzzle solutions? If not, maybe we should take a vote.

You know, once a change to the current build is made and released for testing, that is.

No, you don't understand. I'm not asking whether we should change this: I'm asking *how* we should change this (if at all).

I don't see any particular reason to change this.

I have one room where the player's sword is used to counteract the effect of a decoy's in reflecting an aumtlich beam.

I don't know of any others where this is an issue.

Edit: I like the plan below.

I'd suggest a change so that obstruction always takes precedence over reflection. So in case of multiple swords on one square, the beam would always be obstructed without being reflected, unless the square contains exactly two swords, both of which are perpendicular to the beam. This seems a bit cleaner to me, and reasonably intuitive.

I like Watcher's idea and think that behavior would be more intuitive than what we have right now.

That's quite a lot of agreement.

I've added a patch to the SVN such that multiple swords on the same tile always block Aumtlich gazes, unless the swords are all of similar or reverse orientation (a west and east-facing sword on the same tile would reflect a south or north-facing gaze, but a west and northeast-facing sword would not).

Given that the usual way this technique was used in the past was to interrupt a decoy that had an Aumtlich frozen, there shouldn't be that much breakage (if any). Didn't notice anything strange when I reviewed my demos for Dungeon of Broken Orbs or Choose Your Adventure either.
