I also have a hold entered into this contest, which I'm sure all of you will enjoy. It has an extremely variable length, so hopefully all of you should have a lunchbreak of fun :)

I have both of my holds in. As already said on those entries' posts, both can be added into the compilation.

Just several hours left until judgment! Good luck!

Only hours left until the Period of Perspiration, the Day of Destruction, the Point of Pain. Yes, that can describe the Time of Judgment soon to come. In those latter hours, you can either have a Wonderful Win, or a Ludicrous Lose. There is no middle ground.

3 Winners, 4 Losers. I shall bid you good luck.

By my count, there's 12 hours left until the deadline. I expect there won't be too many entries after this, so it looks like we're going to have 2 tables of about 8 entries each. Hopefully 8 hours of play won't be too onerous for people.

So, do we really need to have the hold be Anyone-Edit, or is it only for the Lunchbreak Special? Because I despise cheaters checking my files, and I want to be sure I can make my hold cheater-proof for the contest.

Don't worry, I will send an editable version after the contest is over.

I may ask for the cheater version cuz so often I stand in the entrance of your holds dumb founded as to what to do. You have such challenging puzzles but with out help I often never see them. That is why I am such an avocate for the anyone edit. I only look if there is not way I am going to see it any other way. :blush Call me a poor player if you want but I have seen what you all call moderate-to-lesser skill difficulity.

Don't worry, you'll have fun with my and Hartleyhair's hold. It's not classical DROD. You might be stumped by the Sokoban puzzles I selected, though. Even I have a hard time with them. ;)

If you read the contest rules, you are supposed to max out your votes at the approximate ratio of how far through you made it. So you don't need to worry about those - if you stay stuck on that room, just give it a 1 and move on.

One of my entries is a one room maze.

...Is this ok?

My other entry is a small, quite easy hold.

...Is this also ok?

Well... people might vote you lower for having less content. There's a fine balance between being unfinishable and being too short.

Unless the puzzle content is quite good in that short space, yet finishable.

I got critized in the Dec 07 contest for downgrading a hold because I couldn't get anywhere, seem I can't win for trying. :(
I guess there are just some very different approaches. When you see mine you will see that I took a very different approach. Hope that doesn't upset you all.

I guess that since they're all supposed to be 1-hour holds, you should simply vote on how close you personally got to complete it in that hour.

Of course, certain people will vote you down if it's too easy and the same goes for harder holds where the puzzles restrict exploration. I like theis contest idea as it is truly a case of designing a hold that is accessible to most.

An alternative would be to build some hub room where, depending on how many moves it took to clear (for example), the path changes so as to last an hour for all skill levels. This could be done using a bomb timer for example, blocking off the exits by killing golems or some such... I'm no architect though, and I'm sure that would be a lot of work.

techant, the rules seem to be different this time around, perhaps for the very reason you allude to. They specifically say that you're supposed to vote based on the amount of the hold you saw.
In addition, judges who did not complete all the required rooms will be asked to score out of the percentage of the required rooms they completed - for example, a judge who believes they only finished half the hold will be asked to judge out of 5.
So go ahead and vote as you have, I say!

Meanwhile, I'm excited for the March Contest.

As part of your post, you must specify whether or not you wish to be included in the compilation hold, and if you have any special instructions for inclusion. Your hold must also be set to 'anyone edit'.

We need more easy-medium difficulty holds on the holds on the Holds board. A compilation of these very enjoyable al Dente entries would be perfect. I'm going to try to make this compilation.

Before I get started, I need some help accessing information in MattCrampy's submission topic, which I can't see. Which architects gave permission for their hold to be included in the compilation?

Thanks in advance!

EDIT: Thanks to Schik for helping me out with this. :)

But I am still looking forward to the compilation. :)

Here's a version of the middle plane I'd like it if you used. I've removed the hidden plane, which wasn't very good. I've also cleaned up the text a bit, and fixed a unintended solution.
