This is the story of Beethro's adventure in an unknown land.

To the west: Beethro and a whole mess of briar.
To the east: the stairs to the next level.

Will Beethro make it to the stairs, or will the briar catch him first? And what does it all mean?

Better run grab your swords! Here's a new hold by Dischorran.

It features a varied selection of not-too-difficult efficiency puzzles, in which Beethro must barge east to the stairs through a room of monsters or obstacles before a growing briar catches him. Similar to Floor 33, there is one puzzle per level. Be sure to stop and read the level entrance screens in between puzzles, as they contain a deliciously surrealistic story.

Kudos for the original way of "hiding" secret rooms used in this hold, which relies on the fact that getting Beethro to some squares on the east side of a room is harder than getting him to other squares. You can only master this hold if you can figure out all the harder room solutions.

A quick tasty treat! Not only are the rooms fun to solve, the story is quite entertaining. There's something here for everyone, yes even optimisers, but you'd better be quick!

Conquered, not yet mastered(heh, at least I was able to reach all the secret rooms and solve one of them).

Overall it was pretty good not-too hard hold mostly based on effeciency, and I like effeciency puzzles a lot. My favourite room is probably Separation: entrance. Revelation: entrance was also very fun to solve. And other rooms of course were good, too.

Overall: 9 fun, 5,5 brains

EDIT: Aand mastered. Exploration: Entrance is now my favourite room in the hold. :thumbsup

I need to know one thing before I play this hold.

What does the title reference?

It's the penultimate chapter of C. S. Lewis' "The Last Battle", which is also the source of the epigraph. The Chronicles of Narnia being what they are, I should also note that it's not being used for its religious connotations.

OK, I loved this hold.

Each room is a wonderfully self-contained puzzle, all with essentially the same goal (get to the other side), but each puzzle is different and interesting.

I've managed to conquer it, but I'm still at least two secret rooms away from mastering it.

Yargh.

This hold gets a 9 for fun and 6.5 brains.

Josh

In related news, I notice that someone has hit this hold with a spurious (I assume) 1 rating. Any of the Powers That Be care to rectify that?

Josh

[EDIT: Actually, it's only related in the sense that I noticed it when I checked the votes up to this point. Lest anyone draw the wrong conclusions...]
