Re: CaravelNet chat quotes (0)
Double-post, but this was quite funny, and it's been a LONG time coming for me to post this entire thing. But let me set the stage.
There are some who reside deep within this area of the Eighth where things are just incredibly weird, even to the Empire. It's generally the best place for Skywatchers to hang out and do whatever. They call that place "Erik's Basement", for some reason.
However, what most people don't know is what happens late at night when... oh, give or take 4 hours that abovegrounder Halph goes to sleep. That time of day. When most abovegrounders are asleep. Is there anything scandalous? Crazy? Well, not really, but it's weird and stupid and kinda funny to read, so who cares. From serious discussion of level design, to a primal hatred of Mud, to mpreg artwork of William Shatner, this, is CaravelNet Chat After Dark: The Saga Of Staying Up To 1AM EST.

Camwoodstock: [01:06 AM]: I think we take a LOT of scripting for granted, too.
Camwoodstock: [01:06 AM]: Remember back in AE? You had to use orbs. And SCROLLS.
Camwoodstock: [01:06 AM]: Lots. And lots. Of scrolls.
Tahnan: [01:06 AM]: oh my yes.
Camwoodstock: [01:06 AM]: More scrolls than your scroll wheel on your mouse can actually handle, causing it to break on impact.
Camwoodstock: [01:07 AM]: We have it PRETTY easy nowadays.
Camwoodstock: [01:07 AM]: Anyways, I'm only up so late 'cuz I couldn't sleep.
Camwoodstock: [01:07 AM]: I then thought it'd be a wise idea to go ahead and check the new art on an art website I'm on, see if anyone I follow posted anything... and saw a monstrocity in the "newest art" section.
Camwoodstock: [01:08 AM]: So I'm kinda staying up out of fear that the nightmare will resemble anything like the greasiest rotten chicken ever.
Tahnan: [01:08 AM]: Told you to stop reading the Shatner mpreg forums, but noooo.
Camwoodstock: [01:08 AM]: Or at least, I think.
Camwoodstock: [01:08 AM]: Mpreg? What kinda thing do you think scares me, DeviantArt?
Camwoodstock: [01:09 AM]: I've seen actual horrible stuff, not this "inflation art is cringe and i am a normal human hence i am laughing at you instead of treating you like a person" stuff.
Camwoodstock: [01:09 AM]: And trust me, you don't wanna see it.
Camwoodstock: [01:09 AM]: ...
Camwoodstock: [01:09 AM]: It's what we call MOAR.
Insoluble: [01:09 AM]: "Shatner" was enough to send sivers down my spine.
Camwoodstock: [01:09 AM]: Well, not really. But it's comparable, I'd wager.
Camwoodstock: [01:10 AM]: Really? All I could think of was William Shatner. And mpreg of him just kinda sounds more weird than nightmarish.
Camwoodstock: [01:10 AM]: ...
Insoluble: [01:10 AM]: Also, @Camwoodstock I'm playing through some of the new stuff. Will try to post feedback in a bit. But you should see demos for the [???] level.
Camwoodstock: [01:10 AM]: I think 1:11 AM CaravelNet Chat is a weird place indeed.
Camwoodstock: [01:10 AM]: @Insoluble: I'll try tomorrow.
Insoluble: [01:10 AM]: Come one Billy Shat doesn't chill your spine a bit?
Camwoodstock: [01:11 AM]: Billy who now?
Insoluble: [01:11 AM]: CaravelNet is always weird for some definition of weird.
Camwoodstock: [01:11 AM]: Yeah, but never has mpreg came up in CaravelNet chat.
Insoluble: [01:11 AM]: Shanter man. Shatner.
Camwoodstock: [01:11 AM]: Especially William Shatner mpreg.
Camwoodstock: [01:12 AM]: But oh lordy, let me tell you I've seen much weirder--and worse.
Insoluble: [01:12 AM]: Alright. A bit more testing then time to call it a night.
Camwoodstock: [01:12 AM]: For instance, people are okay with sinking in tar and mud. Possibly even dying.
Camwoodstock: [01:12 AM]: All I can think of is, "KING DUGAN WHY."
Tahnan: [01:12 AM]: ...where he's an ocelot or something...
Camwoodstock: [01:12 AM]: ...Real talk? I think DROD has given me an eternal hatred of tar
and mud, period.
Tahnan: [01:13 AM]: How much tar do you encounter in the world?
Camwoodstock: [01:13 AM]: Earlier today I was walking home from a convenience store in a call with a friend, and I nearly slipped on some still-wet mud from an earlier storm, nearly dropped my drink, and nearly had my head slam dunked onto the road.
Camwoodstock: [01:13 AM]: I actually audibly yelled, "MUUUUUD!!".
Camwoodstock: [01:14 AM]: @Tahnan: Well, usually it's dried up by the time I encounter it, but the next time you see them filling cracks in the road... Just realize what they're using to fill those.
Tahnan: [01:14 AM]: Asphalt?
Camwoodstock: [01:15 AM]: Wait, it's not tar? I swore it was tar as a kid...
Camwoodstock: [01:15 AM]: Ah, whatever. It's 1AM over here so I dunno.
Tahnan: [01:15 AM]: Dunno. Do you have an asphalt phobia?
Camwoodstock: [01:15 AM]: Nope.
Camwoodstock: [01:15 AM]: But my point still stands. I hate tar and mud so much it's leaked
into every part of my life.
Tahnan: [01:15 AM]: They eat it in Finland.
Camwoodstock: [01:16 AM]: Not because I'm AFRAID of tar and mud... okay, tar and mud rooms in DROD are a pain, so that's kinda lying, but I'm not terrified in the sense I have a phobia.
Camwoodstock: [01:16 AM]: Now the real question of the night is, how did we get from me being awake at 1AM, to William Shatner mpreg, to my hate for tar and mud becoming universal?
Camwoodstock: [01:17 AM]: Answer, and I might just give you my next rank point I can give. Might.
Tahnan: [01:17 AM]: Where he's an ocelot or something.
Dragon Fogel: [01:17 AM]: I think the answer is that you probably need to get to sleep.
Camwoodstock: [01:17 AM]: Yeah, I probably should.
Camwoodstock: [01:18 AM]: Thing is, I tried, but I couldn't, hence I... oh, you can read the chat archives, I don't need to repeat that.
Tahnan: [01:18 AM]: oh, look, it's Dragon Fogel, the person I blame for all my current DROD woes.
Tahnan: [01:18 AM]: At least, "CH" has this prominent "DF" everywhere, so I'm assuming it's all Dragon Fogel's fault.
Dragon Fogel: [01:20 AM]: If I were going by a pseudonym to try to escape being associated with a subpar hold, it wouldn't be one that gave me a [element]-related headache.
Insoluble: [01:20 AM]: If anything Fogel is partially responsible for making that hold slightly less painful.
Insoluble: [01:20 AM]: *slightly*
Tahnan: [01:21 AM]: This is hard. Really hard. Also [element], which I already hate.
mauvebutterfly: [01:21 AM]: Didn't his input result in twice as many rooms though?
Insoluble: [01:21 AM]: Now the [element] level only makes you want to claw your eyes out and throw your computer out the window.
Insoluble: [01:21 AM]: Before it induced genocidal rage.
Insoluble: [01:21 AM]: So: improvement
Camwoodstock: [01:22 AM]: That would be an improvement.
mauvebutterfly: [01:22 AM]: It's less hard for completion, but worse for 100% since the bad rooms were still included as secrets, right?
Dragon Fogel: [01:22 AM]: Yeah but at least you can beat the hold without dealing with the worse versions of the rooms.
Insoluble: [01:22 AM]: yea, [the architect] had the marvelous idea to keep all the rooms everyone hated but just make them secret.
Dragon Fogel: [01:22 AM]: Those still didn't get to me as much as that dang [kept secret for sake of privacy, but if you've seen fogel in chat you could probably guess what element would upset him] puzzle.
Camwoodstock: [01:23 AM]: Then again, I think the concept of "keep a scrapped room for a bonus" has been around since at least JtRH Postmastery.
Camwoodstock: [01:23 AM]: Anyhow, I'm off to try to sleep again.
Insoluble: [01:23 AM]: Just becasue something has been done for ages doesn't make it right.
Camwoodstock: [01:23 AM]: Please do not send me any William Shatner Mpreg.
Camwoodstock: [01:23 AM]: @Insoluble: I wasn't justifying it. I was just sayin' it's been a thing for awhile, even in official holds.
Dragon Fogel: [01:24 AM]: We're starting to push back against it a little.
(hold names, and contents of rooms have been censored for the sake of protecting privacy--some have since said they'd rather not be too harsh on the rooms and holds being discussed here anyhow. of course, this is okay if it's an official hold or my upcoming hold... but that's all i'll be saying about that latter one for now)
