For those of you who don't know what I'm talking about, nearly complete guide to monster movement for a description of serpent behavior.

So, anyone know if there's a particular narrative justification for this quirk? I'm not sure if the Eighth even has the sort of magnetic field that makes compasses possible; otherwise that would be my first guess.

It's because the honey badgers live down south.

Serpents are cold-blooded creatures and it's warmer to the north?

Heliotropism?

Also, you may prefer this nearly complete guide, which will be released with the help files of DROD 4.

I have a correction for the help guide.

When brained, these monsters will still be drawn to decoys that are in range, but not to stalwarts/soldiers. They will kill stalwarts/soldiers, however, if that is the quickest path to get to the player.

This is not true. They will kill stalwarts if they are adjacent to them regardless of the player.

Another correction.
They may also eat tarstuff providing it is a piece not vulnerable to stabbing.

They can eat any tarstuff.

Can't reproduce either of those corrections, both look good in the original text.

Not 100% sure about the former, will double check. But it's definitely true that brained monsters only pathmap to the player, not to player allies.

But the latter, I think, is just a misunderstanding.

Adders can eat any type of tarstuff (gel/tar/mud) but can only do so at a tile at which the player cannot cut it (i.e. they can eat gel at any point but can't eat tar edges or mud corners).

Edit: thanks for checking Doom.

You're definitely mistaken here. For example adders can never ear a 2x2 mud blob. The current description is fine.

It even extends to single mothers with a piece of normally unstable tarstuff underneath. Such squares are considered outer corners, which means that a single square of mud + mother cannot be eaten, unlike if it were tar or gel.

Edit: Whoa, three-way post collision.

I think The spitemaster is doing his thing correctly ;).

Even though I'm pretty sure I'm right, I'm sure the spitemaster was saying that in good faith and was just trying to be helpful!

Oh. I totally misread that about the tarstuff.

However, here is a room proving my point about the brained movement.

Goblins do not fall under the category of "Brained roaches, tar and mud babies, spiders and awakened evil eyes", which is where the sentence you quoted came from.

The ABM level in Advanced Concepts has a summary room that pretty much details what you want here.

Syntax if you're proposing a new rule for Tautology Club, you have to propose a new rule for Tautology Club.

It was more a (n obscure) reference to a Fry and Laurie sketch.
