I just created an update for my hold. An ortho-square is added in 2N and the mimic potion by the oremites (accidently left during testing the hold) is eliminated. 1S describes the changes. I plan to attach this hold file after the voting process is over. It is the version for the compilation if there is one.

Challenge(Entrance): Conquer the room without drinking the mimic potion by the oremites.

I don't believe that these two changes shall count... they are, after all, *after* the deadline.

Jatopian, you are a champion. A champion!

I'm going to hijack Erik's contest and start up the voting in a couple of hours. Everyone be cool until then, okay?

While replaying the entries in order to vote, I had an urge to state something to everyone. And that statement is:

The cheapest trick out of all of the ones you guys have pulled is not putting any checkpoints in your holds. Egads, that's terrible. It's a trick that doesn't make me feel better about the hold. Once I've worked out your cheap trick I should be able to do the hold and vote on it.

All I'll say for now is that there are some really AMAZING entries and...there are some really terrible ones.

Well, I finally played and voted for all of them. This was a much more difficult contest to vote for.

I tried to gauge my vote according to three variables:

1) How good the cheap trick was.
2) How good the hold was in general
3) The level of frustration and/or rage that the hold inspired in me.

Needless to say, some of these left me feeling fairly conflicted.

Some entries were very fun to play, but had little or no 'cheap trick' to them.
Some had good cheap tricks but weren't any fun to play.
Some were very good in both cases.
Some were awful.

I'm not going to do a detailed review of which ones I liked and didn't like. Too many.

Josh

Just finished the voting as well…

Wow, that was quite an operation. What a load of entries! I had to do all the testing and voting in three days. That, and evaluating all the levels, carefully comparing them, together with many difficult considerations.

nevertheless it was very fun to do and see such varied holds, both excellent ones, and unfortunately also some very bad ones. certainly a rewarding task.

The polls end in less than a day. Just a small reminder that if you wrote down your votes, then forgot to vote, now would be a swell time to vote.

I'm going to be at a funeral when they lock, so it's going to probably about 24 hours from this post before I'll be able to make the final, okay?

To occupy people until that time, we've done a couple of contests with the league format now. What do people think of it?

Bah... voting only takes more this way since you need time for two rounds. And the one advantage is that one doesn't have to vote on everything at once.

So, ideally, in my opinion, the league system should be kept, but votes should be simply compared to each other, without making a second round. Then again, the fact that not all voters may vote on all leagues might somehow influence the results.

Mind you, that's what I think is better for the community. I for one could not care wether we use leagues or not, as I have no problem writing down my thoughts and storing them for when I can vote for everything at once.

Actually, I'm quite pleased with the league system. For me this is still the first time to vote, so I have no experience with other voting systems. But I found it easy to evaluate leagues with not too many entries and being able to vote in one league without having to take other leagues into account.

With that second point in mind I'd not recommend Dex's idea to vote in leagues without a second round. I think there's nothing wrong with having slightly different standards for different leagues, but then there must always be a finale to get a fair comparison.

I do not foresee much trouble with having to vote in one more round, since I've already evaluated all the entries.

I've been neither up nor down with the league system. But this time I did notice that if my two entries had been switched my Upthedownstaircase would have been the sixth one in the other league. :lol

There were many with much higher votes in the other leagues, it was just that those in Balancing Bucket League seem to have a lot of low scores. I am not the only one or the highest one because there were others with 6.1 or higher score.

I guess, like others, I liked the leagues so that I can break up my voting. But even with the possibility of some folks not voting in all the leagues, I think we should take the highest scores as the winners. If we need a run off we should still just take the 18 highest over all, no matter the leagues. This would also take the pressure off the contest holder about setting up balanced leagues. Win Win :D

So, was the runoff supposed to be the top six from each league (for a total of eighteen), or the top six total (presumably the top two from each league)?

Since they award three prizes, they can't take only two from each league, because the best three just might be from the same league.

When a) the funeral is over and b) when my internet connection can handle frequent reloads of a page. I think I've gone over my cap or something. Ah well, I can do it here.
