Forgive me for this month's thinly veiled ulterior motives, but you should know by now that I rarely do contests for the sake of them
. For this one twelfth of the year, the aim of the contest is to create fake contest announcement posts, like this post. Although not too similar, I can't have you sneaky young upstarts telling me how I should have made this contest announcement.
Rules
-To participate, you must submit at least one (1), at most three (3), contest announcements. If you do, I will only count the latest 3.
-Your entry must have a
blue contest title at the very top of your post.
-The rest of your entry should be contained within
[secret][/secret] tags.
-You may make as many edits as you like within the time period.
-Each contest announcement must contain an
introduction (like at the top of the post, preferably better), a pseudo
time schedule (like the next category down),
prizes and
rules.
-Pretend that this is an official contest set sometime in
2008.
-The originality of your ideas is not of concern. Originality of your writing is.
-To enter this competition, please post below. (If anyone has any concerns, I'll create a submission topic, which is a special kind of thread only I can see all the posts of)
-Each entry must have a word count between
500 to 1000. (To get an accurate idea of how big this is, this post is 650 words)
-Although the actual idea of the contest is of little concern, please keep it within realistic limits. No furniture contests or dragon taming competitions. Not that they would retain a lot of clarity anyway.
Timing
This contest will close its doors to submissions
Local Time:10-23-2007 at 05:00 PM, meaning you have
negative 891 weeks, 5 days left. Yes, that means this contest is going for 2 weeks instead of the usual 3.
Voting Criteria
The voters will be instructed to vote by rating entries for their
clarity,
wit, writing skills and presentation.
In order to judge clarity, try to establish as many different interpretations of the entry as possible and discuss them with other voters. The competitor's explanation should only be accepted if there is a clear misreading (as opposed to a misinterpretation) of his entry.
Tips
-It's best not to directly base your entry on any specific contest in the past. Just think of a contest type (such as writing, architecture, puzzle or something else) and go with what takes your fancy. Having said that, seeing how people have written up various contests is a good idea.
-Think outside the norms. Don't just create a boring, easy-to-explain contest. Be daring.
-Giant walls of text are not a good thing.
Prizes
The winner as decided by the voters will receive the traditional 100 rank points and a unconditional choice from
the Prize Pile.
The runner up with be awarded with 50 rank points, and an imaginary 3 headed monkey.
The third placed contestant will be granted a measly 25 rank points and a paper unicorn.
All contestants will be allowed participation credit, and lose
'the game'.
People who have thus far lived under a trapdoor and yet to discover the wonder, thrill and adventure of contests will get 10 rank points.
Voters will be hailed as magnificent unsung heroes, even if by having this acknowledgement this can't be possible.
A special 10 rank point, 10 mod point prize will be awarded to the person who makes the best contest announcement when it comes to the prizes. This is based upon my discretion, and does not include parody or satire works. However, this award requires the one condition that the creator must be willing to have their writing ruthlessly plagiarised.
