I'd thought I would hit a wall as I tested them on the way up on the diagonal, but obviously there is an opening somewhere along there. Also the top right roach is labelled #4, so that's new.

I think I can explain. The first step of this portion of your solution takes you out of the central 7x7 area. The last step of this portion takes you West from the NW force arrow. From then on, you move South down a vertical passage and East down a horizontal passage.

Definitely seems like the first three moves should be 999 to get Roaches 1-3 stuck on the correct Force Arrows. Then either go left or down to get off the trapdoors and take out what roaches you can.... Probably are force arrows hidden under the Master blocks at the left end of the roach halls north and south of the trapdoor center.
If I could just find another sword, I'd test some of this out. :)
EDIT - And that turns out to be a bad idea, so don't start with "999". :-)

Well I proved to myself that you do have to kill all the roaches to exit, even though there is no green door. I got all the way to the exit plus a few moves to exit and it would not let me leave. :weep

Now the problem is I don't know if I could solve this room even if I knew what it completely looked like.

Finally. :) Half my trouble was "Duh" and the other half was move transcription errors because I use the "uiojklm" keys. If another one of these is ever done, it might be nice to have a choice of which sets of keys to use, if it's possible and not too hard to implement.

I got it too! I would have gotten it sooner if I didn't have to wait a day to find a sword.

The trapdoor lock on the left side was a pretty clever trick.

Yes. It's just as well, though. At this point all I'm doing is uncovering squares. Soon I'll probably make another mockup of the puzzle in DROD itself.

And so have I. I just needed to be assured that killing everything was really the object.

I have attached the hold file of the puzzle. I can't guarantee it matches the puzzle entirely since it's not entirely uncovered yet, but it probably does and it's solvable.

Schik: If you could unblock play.php for folks who aren't logged in, and maybe put a little how-to-play bit on the page, it might be useful for letting people see a DROD puzzle without having to download it. Plus simply unblocking it would be nice to folks like larrymurk and Banjooie. I'll even write the how-to-play bit for you, if you want.

This sounds like a great idea.
A link to a page like this could be easily circulated and would act as a good way of getting people interested in DROD.

If you just rigged up an easier puzzle it might work. Perhaps I'm mistaken but it would not be that much effort to construct a simple puzzle to use since the 'engine' is already written?

However, I think the issue is getting folks to the Caravel Games page. Once they're here, the completely free Architect's Edition should be more than enough to decide if they like DROD or not.

If you were serious about making a DROD minigame to lure folks onto the site, I'd recommend you rig it up in flash and distribute it around the various flash portals (eg, Jayisgames, Kongregate). A recreation of the first level of King Dugan's Dungeon, for example, would make for a short introduction and could be followed with a link to the games page. Offer up the Architect's Edition to those who want something free, and offer up the modern games for those who want the highest-quality experience available.

Making a flash version of DROD would require a bit of effort, though, even without the need for any level design.

Yeah, I wouldn't be opposed to this. Maybe a short series of small tutorial rooms with a couple challenge rooms? Right now only the rendering is in javascript while the game logic is in PHP, I'd probably duplicate the game logic in javascript for much much faster response.

I'm kind of busy in the very short term, but this would be cool to get done relatively soon.

I have three swords and only get a blank white box instead of the room. Yesterday I upgraded to I.E. 9.

Was that a mistake?

Yeah, I get the same issue in IE9.

Once the page has loaded, if you look up in the address bar (in the URL field itself) there's a little grey torn-page icon in the middle of the other icons. Click on that -- it'll go blue, the page will reload, and the room should appear.

Finally got around to playing it as a hold. My DROD skills were pretty rusty, but it wasn't that hard actually. I was kind of expecting it to be more lynchpinish, and everything seemed like a red herring at first :P.
