I use TCB 3.1 for Mac. Often I have several applications open at a time, and often I just hide DROD rather than quitting it when I'm doing something else. If I then wish to log out or shut down, all the other applications will quit themselves automatically. But DROD forces a timeout because it gets stuck on the Danforth screen, even if you force-quit. It's very annoying! I'm not sure if it happens on Windows.

I would like to request two things: One, that those who have bought TCB can turn Danforth off from the settings screen as he gets very annoying when you have to get past him every time you exit; and two, that the Danforth screen shouldn't show up when force-quitting or shutting down/logging off.

I always press ESC when I wish to quit. Works.

Maybe so, but he just wants DROD to just shut down quietly like other apps (which should be no problem, considering it saves the game state on exit anyway) when he shuts down his OS - now he has to shut up Danforth by hand every time, which is kinda clunky.

np: Autechre - Steels (Quaristice)

I quite agree with this. Danforth is there to sell the game to those who've got the demo.

When you've got the game all he does is *annoy* you. Nothing else.

I still agree with Jeff - if you press Esc a couple of times you quit the game entirely without having to see or hear Danforth.

You're right.

But you shouldn't have to. The entire point of nagware stuff is poking people until they buy the product. Once you've bought it... it should go away.

Well, I just tried it with the Windows version - Danforth doesn't come up when I have DROD running and shut down windows; the game just quits and Windows shuts down normally.

As far as I understand hartleyhair, Mac OS X stops shutting down because instead of DROD quitting Danforth has to interfere...

This isn't really a feature request, it's a bug - if anything, there should be parity between all platforms DROD runs on.

Also, if an OS is shutting down so should every program that's running, except maybe for throwing a "You're going to lose weeks of work - are you REALLY sure?" prompt at the user, which Danforth clearly isn't...

np: Tortoise - Alcohall (On Noble - John McEntire Remix) (A Lazarus Taxon (Disc 3))

The question there is whether DROD on a Mac is able to know the difference between a user-initiated exit (close button, Alt-F4 etc) or an OS-shutting-down exit. I know that it's doable in Windows, but the Mac may not have an equivalent.

But yeah, I'm all in favour of less Danforth in the full release. He was funny while working through the first few levels of TCB, but that's about it.

I'd like to have a checkbox in the Settings menu that says: "Shut Danforth Up"

Oh, does he say anything after you've already bought the game, like, fore example, when you've won the game. Does he say anything there?

Meanwhile, I always use Esc to exit the game, so I haven't seen Danforth for a while.

I believe that Danforth is a representation of Erik. He's trying to sell you the game the best way possible. That's probably what Erik's trying to do too.

Maybe so, but even then I'm not going to buy it over and over again because of that screen...

np: Tortoise - Cliff Dweller Society (A Lazarus Taxon (Disc 2))
