Training with Danforth has been an illuminating experience.
"
Matt,"
he demanded on the first day of training, "
do you know that DROD... is actually an acronym?!"
"
Yes, Danforth,"
I reply, seeing an opportunity to be a smartalec and to send the message to my mentor to skip to the important stuff, "
it stands for Deadly Rooms of Death. It was dropped around 2005 because there were about three different names the game sites were using for it."
"
Yes, well..."
Danforth was quite put out, although perhaps that has more to do with my insinuation that maybe he should have sent JtRH off to the IGF back in 2005 when he joined the company. (In hindsight, maybe not. TCB's a much better game.)
All these TLAs! It's enough to drive one SRM, but, ever the optimist, I see an opportunity to get people ROFLing. And there just so happened to be a MCC that needed doing....
So This Is What We'll Do
I want you to come up with a new acronym for DROD. An acronym, as Danforth and I discussed, is a sentence where the first letters of the word make a new word (in this case, DROD). Your acronym should, ideally, capture some of the spirit of the game, or have some sort of relevance to the game's storyline or characters. Or, perhaps, it could merely be amusing. It's up to you.
Once you've come up with some cunning wordplay, submit it to this thread:
http://forum.caravelgames.com/viewtopic.php?TopicID=16359&page=0
You've got until
Local Time:06-21-2007 at 01:01 PM to get your entries in. Good wit is spontaneous.
Although the original acronym uses an 'of' as one of its letters, I'm going to give you a bye. Words that aren't normally capitalised when used in titles (such as 'the') don't have to fit the acronym. (In other words, you could sumbit an acronym, "
Deadly Rooms of the Orthogonal Demise"
and that would be fine.)
One entry per person (you may edit your submission). No purchase necessary.
How We'll Score It
We'll do the ol' voting thing, but if we get too many entries (more than 12) we're going to split it into leagues. Each league will have a maximum of 12 entries, and the top four entries in each league will go through to a final.
Entrants should vote '10' for their own entry. Entrants should also refrain from voting trickery such as ranking theirs 10 and giving everyone else a 2.
Prizes
The same as usual: 100 rank points and a dip in the Prize Pile to the winner, 50 and 25 rank points for second and third place, and 10 points for people participating in your first contest.
In addition: 25 rank points will go to the first entrant whose acronym averages above '7'. This will be determined by timestamps from the submission thread, and editing your entry will count as being submitted at the time of edit.
Get to it!
