Just a thought... this one would lead to a lot of puzzle potential, but I'm not sure how it would be received.

Resilient trapdoors. Current ones are red. I propose the formation of yellow and green trapdoors. Step off a green trapdoor, and it becomes yellow. Step off a yellow trapdoor, it becomes red. Step off a red trapdoor, and it falls.

This would allow some quite compact puzzles to be made. What do people think of the idea?

If you need to enter and leave an area X number of times, all you need to do is widen the entrance and put 2X trapdoors in parallel in that entrance.

Otherwise, I think the only other point of that would be saving space in, say, a trapdoor puzzle, and we already have enough ways to make a trapdoor puzzle complicated with orbs and doors without adding these in.

If you can come up with some more applications for these beyond "these turn into red trapdoors eventually" I'd like to hear them.

Actually, I had the idea of combined pure trapdoor puzzles. Imagine a 5x5 room of red, green and yellow trapdoors. You have to drop them all. If they're all red, it's a trivial puzzle. If they're not - its harder, because you have to be careful where you step off at all times.

This has already been requested, actually...

np: Porn Sword Tobacco - Giftwrap Yourself, Slowly (New Exclusice Olympic Heights)

Which is my chief objection to it - people after those sorts of puzzles can play Q*Bert, and DROD won't make these puzzles any more interesting.

Is it just me, or was Q-Bert not about dropping trapdoors, but about coloring platforms by stepping on them? You know, without all that them becoming unusable business?

Some of the later levels involved you having to step on them multiple times, however, and they would "wrap around" - if the goal was to step on everything twice, and you stepped on something a third time it would revert back to the first color. This was sometimes avoidable, but it was a real pain to get everything the correct parity if you had done most of the board by then.

The other horrible thing about those later levels was that one enemy that didn't kill you, but instead reset the blocks it landed on to their original color, a behavior that might be worth bringing along should multi-state trapdoors get implemented.
