2 New sub-contest:
How are you at predicting complicated situtions? Then join us in predicting the time and the turn number of the end of the Snakes to the Death contest. The Snakes to the Death contest is the offical contest for August 2006. But while you wait for your next 10 moves to play out or as you watch grass grow, try figuring out how long it will take everyone but one snake to die.
Predict what day and time the Snakes to the Death game will end.
See
http://forum.caravelgames.com/viewtopic.php?TopicID=11482 for the game.
Remember to adjust for your time zone or state your time zone. So tell us the time and you time zone or we will assume it is my time zone Pacific Standard Time.
Predict what turn it will be went there is only one living snake left and we have a winner.
As Erik said so much better than I,"
the exact thing we are predicting is the time when just one living snake will be present in the snakepit? Also, the pit is updated on even hours although the script might take a minute or so to do its business. So perhaps we could round down the exact time to the start of the even hour."
Updates to rules:
There have been some good points made and some questions asked so here is the updates to the rules.
1.) Predict what day and time the Snakes to the Death game will end. What the date and the exact hour is, rounded down to the start of the even hour where there is only one snake left. Guess what turn number that is as well, (example: on January 9, 2007 turn 10000 which started at 2:00pm pst and ends at 3:59pm pst the last snake dies, so the winng guess would be turn 10001 and 4:00pm pst on January 9, 2007.
2.) You may Enter as many times as you like but you last entry is the one I will count. So there is only one valid entry per person of a date and time and one of a turn number. Two entries total but one of each kind.
3.) Entry time closes on
Sept 1,2006 at 4:00pm PST
(after that we should all be busy figthing for our lives)

4.) Any time guesses without time zones will be considered as PST by default.
Winner Gets
I have 10 mod points for the first person who gets the day and hour right and 10 mod points for the first person who picks the right turn number. You could end up with 20 mod points!

I have been continually playing contest on the forum since Dec 2004. Having often been addressed as a he my new avatar shows that I am a "
Lady"
. And one with a very sharp sword, too.
I love the monthly contests but it took me a long while before I even placed. 21 contests in fact.
Virtual Burning Man was the first contest I took any place in and I got 1st, wow!. Yes, I have received my prize, a sweatshirt from the DROD store, and I love it.
It took 14 more contest but next I took 1st prize in Media of the Eighth Nov07, followed by a win in the Secret Santa 2007. Check out my entry:

Suddenly I was a winner but, still the goal of a winning hold based contest eludes me....
I keep trying so come and join me.
