UPDATE - NEW ENTRY ATTACHED TO COMPILATION HOLD

You can now vote for your darlings.

Remember: you are expected to give your own submission a '10' rating for balance.

Make your judgment based on whichever criteria you seem fit, but be sure to pay some attention to the creative ways in which specific gentryii head interactions have been used.

There are a couple of complete (mini) levels, but also two single room submissions. Give the single rooms a fair change when comparing them with more elaborate entries.

If you notice a bug, please PM me and I'll see if I can fix it, possibly together with the original contributor.

Happy voting!

UPDATE!

New compilation hold attached, including one new entry.

Please download this hold to view all submissions.

Your progress up to now should not be lost.

Apologies for the inconvenience.

Note: due to the changes I had to made to the hold, the level "Mechanical Roaches" is actually called "Unchained Malady" in the voting list above. Unfortunately, I can't change the voting options.

The contest entries for this contest were - I think - very cool. I have seen several novel and unexpected ways of dealing with Gentryii heads.

For those of you that have not checked out this contest: go do so :) In total, there's about 30 puzzle rooms, with varying difficulty.

Also: I have uploaded an updated version some days ago that contains an additional level (Mechanical Roaches/Unchained Malady) as well as a small bug fix in the last room of Little G's First Link. Both changes won't affect your progress, but I'd recomment to download the latest version.

Here's a complete pack of demos for the hold. There were a few tough rooms in this contest, but no big huge showstoppers; I think overall I'd probably say the whole compilation is something like a 6 or 7 brain rating.

Most of these demos shouldn't be very surprising but I did save a few alternate demos of unusual victories and solutions I wasn't sure whether they were intended or not.

I've voted now, and as usual I'll post my comments in a text file when the poll closes.

--

I should also mention that in the Unchained Hub, it's currently possible in 1N2E to escape the inside of the chain and get to the outside, which seems like it's supposed to be the Hold Complete area. Flutchman might want to seal that up.

Thnx for noting. I'll fix that.

Here's another complete demos hold.

Very nice, a couple puzzles were quite challenging.
Few puzzles may not have the intended solution

For some reason, in Mechanical Roaches 1S1E, gentryii didn't loose chain when bridge dropped. I had solved room previously with
Click here to view the secret text
, then did it again without it because chain was still on gentryii, and solved room.

As always with these compilations during voting there were a few unintended solutions, but overall I had a lot of fun with these entries.

I'm glad that some people enjoyed my entry. I thought it might put some people off, and the standard deviation definitely confirms that. I always seem to "score" high in that particular metric with these contests.

I have released video of me playing through all the entries; I solved everything. I've also attached demos to this post for people who prefer their feedback in that form. (Would demos from other people also be copied when I hit export all? This demo pack probably includes KituU and Chaco demos.)

Congratulations to Rabscuttle!

Thanks a lot for voting, and thanks even more to the architects.

I'll put down a full list of entries/architects and will make an arch architecture thread as well.

But that will have to wait until tomorrow.

Congratulations Rabscuttle! I managed to come third with my entry, which I'm slightly surprised about. As usual, my rooms ended up being on the higher end of the difficulty scale, though I'd not initially intended this to be the case. My entry was extremely rushed and this showed with the fiddliness of some of the rooms and the number of unintended solutions present. That being said, I hope you all enjoyed at least some of the content and rooms in there, even if some of the others leave a little to be desired! :)

Hooray, 2nd place!

Of the two people whose architect guesses I've seen, both guessed me correctly. Maybe it doesn't help that I went so far as to ask whether scripting was OK in the contest announcement thread, or that I put my own voice in the level at one point.

I wanted KILL LASER (the correct name of the element is always in all caps for silliness purposes) to behave distinctly different from pulse cannon. So: No explosive properties, no piercing any "solid object", it just instakills any creature with "attack tile kill"; it's body push only because pulse cannon was weapon push only; and the laser is always present instead of needing to find a target to shoot, which is why it's also deadly during half-turns. The one unfortunate thing is that KILL LASERs can kill other KILL LASERs, and if two are placed facing each other it depends on move order which one actually dies x_X

And--I don't particularly hate Gentryii myself, although they can be used in annoying ways. I just thought it'd be funny to make a level all about killing them, and maybe anyone who finds them particularly frustrating would find zapping them with a green laser mildly therapeutic? Also a star wars quote.

Looking at mauve's video (and DF's response to it also), I think 1S2W might have come out more difficult than I really intended it. I suppose I found a good setup for the mirrors that made brained gentryii go to the right place and just thought something like it should occur to anyone after thinking about it for a bit.

I had fun with all the entries. I did make some videos of my playthrough, which I'll upload in a day or two when I'm home again.

Thanks Flutchman for running the contest!

Here are some dumb videos.

I deleted the sound due to a combination of me having a nasty cough at the time and still being pretty terrible at talking while playing.

I might do a playthrough of my level with commentary at some point, but it's dependent on my getting a suitably large and undisturbed block of time.

I almost forgot: this is an official contest. So here should be prices somewhere/somehow.

But that's really not my department. Anyone around who can handle this?

Tnx!
