I don't even know if I should post this here or in Architecture, but hey.

TCB Architecture currently has ten stickied threads. That means that when I open the board, I have to scroll down to see what's new and whether I care. This is naturally a minor thing, but it's annoying.

So I wonder whether it'd be possible to combine some of those threads, or move the information elsewhere with a link at the top of the page. Certainly "The Architectural Process" is important; but maybe put a link to it in the announcement rather than a stickied thread? Hold Design Tips contains great information--good enough that perhaps it should be featured as content somewhere rather than in a stickied thread? (I mean, it's nice to have a place to discuss what makes good hold design, but another non-stickied thread might be better for that, and anyway no one's discussed it there since August 2006.) And so forth.

This is a good point, and should be retained for future reference....

...

maybe we should sticky it?

(Sorry,it was too obvious not to be done. But, yeah, good point.)

Here's an easy solution: Create one stickied thread that links to all of the other stickied threads, and then unstick most everything else.

Or format it so all the sticky threads on a board can be collapsed into a single space, then expanded again to show all of them.

More practical suggestion... some of the Architecture stickies contained related information that's used as a reference.

The following stickied topics could be combined into one topic, since they're reference sources

Construction Methods
Hold Design Tips
Scripting Reference Guide

'The Architectural Process' and 'A friendly note from your HAs' could also be combined into a single topic.

If both these things were done, that would reduce the number of stickies by 3.

The massive number of stickies has annoyed me for a long time. I'm glad you brought this up. I'm not sure what to do about it, but I definitely agree that something needs to be done.

An option in profile to make stickied threads really compact?

This way 10 sticks from Architecture become quite small.

Ergo the architecture forum is reduced to two stickies.

Make no mistake about it / ain't no kind of magic involved / gear to the piston / problem solved

Thought of another possibility, and that is to have all sticky threads collapsed into a single space which expands when you hover the mouse over it and collapses when you move the mouse away. Though it ought to be done in a way so you don't have to always hover the mouse to view all stickies.

I like Banjooie's summary and think that, if we're going to cut down the stickied threads, we should use that.

So there seemed to be general agreement that something should be done, and a decent amount of support for Banjooie's suggestion in particular. I'd really hate to see this just sort of drift away. Who can make it happen?

Hang on for a bit, I'll take care of it.

I'm going to use Banjo's summary to link to important threads on the board.

Amazing. The Architecture Board looks so different without all those stickied threads.

The Architecture Board Index is still up there. I don't know if you want to unsticky that and put it into the Sticky-Condenser (TM) or if you want to just leave that up there.

I want to keep that as a separate sticky, as it's the general architecture index.

I freely admit I didn't expect you to actually use my direct wording on account of I slammed snake movement puzzles in there.

But okay :awesome:
