Okay. So I have a few levels done. This hold will probably be released on the Holds Board sometime later (a lot later, knowing me). I really hope that Erik doesn't mind that I make a remake.

Current Demo Status:
Levels: 2
Total Rooms: 37
Unrequired Rooms: 8
Secret Rooms: 4
Required Rooms: 28

Version 1.1
-L1: 2N1W fixed (now able to backtrack)
-L1: 1N1W fixed (now able to backtrack)

Version 1.1.2
-L1: 5N2W fixed (now able to exit room)
-hold is now anyone edit

Version 1.2
-First Level stairs now work

Version 1.2.5
-L2: 1S1E fixed (removed tar blocking secret wall)
-L2: Entrance fixed (removed tar in east side of room)

Chaco is currently downloading the hold so he can attempt to try it out.

Chaco also enjoys referring to himself in the third person occasionally.

EDIT:

Oh hey, it's a KDD remake. Those are always fun. But, is Quince North Twice West possible? I don't see an orb to let you back out, and the normal way to get out has caved in. And I know you're not using any custom floor shenanigans because I'm using my own style.

EDIT #2:

Oh, hey, you didn't even make it Anyone Edit so I could skip down to the second level. Just so you knew about it.

Are you planning to re-do all 25 levels of KDD?

Bug:

First Level 2N1W the west-most orb doesn't open or close anything.

Edit:

There's no way to get back from 2N1W or 1N1W.

Oh, these are all bugs from the first level.

Yeah, probably all except possibly 24 and definitely 25 because of the 'Neather.
Bug:

First Level 2N1W the west-most orb doesn't open or close anything.
Intentional.
Edit:

There's no way to get back from 2N1W or 1N1W.

Oh, these are all bugs from the first level.
Thanks Tom. Fixed that. Here's version 1.1.

Which file? Topmost or the post closer to this?

Edit:

Downloaded this topmost, most recent edit.

Edit2:

Wait the topmost file didn't have the bug fixed. I'll try the other one...

Edit3:

When I try to import, it says that it is the same hold. Could you fix the bug, please?

Hold is now anyone edit. I hesitated on that because then people could make remakes of the rest of KDD, then I realized I had the other levels in a seperate file. :selftwak Here's 1.1.2. Keep testing! Thank you.

Well, it is anyone edit, so to the editor!

EDIT:

In Level 2 You can't exit east from the entrance into 1E.

And In 1S1E, you can't return from the secret wall in the southmost side. (Tar's blocking in)

Yeah, for the purposes of room entrances, tar basically acts as a wall.

Also, I don't see how The Entrance would even be possible, since you can't attack both mothers without some sort of mimic potion.

Oh I see! Okay, I fixed it. Thought it'd be possible to enter a room with tar at the walls... Fixed all the other rooms that had that as well (I think). Here's 1.2.5.

Actually, I'm looking forward to level 4... nobody's done that level yet.

I suppose I'll see if there's anything horribly wrong with the level, anyway...

Can I be one to say that I don't really like it so far? I don't really particularly enjoy remakes to begin with, but this one seems particularly not thought out. It seems like each room was made by following a formula that consists of these steps:

1. Take the room.
2. Make it look old.
3. Subtract all the monsters.
4. Throw in tons of new monsters, preferably with brains, in either the same pattern as the original monsters, or something completely random.

It's just not that fun for me. Also, I'm not sure how much Erik will take to a full 20+ level remake of KDD. I think one level at a time is the most you can go.

Also, occasionally hide a required room behind a secret wall, which is something I find pretty irritating, since you hide secret rooms in the same way.

I find it okay, but I think you could probably spend a bit more time on it. Perhaps making alternate puzzles instead of just... spewing different monsters?

Really sorry to see you don't like it Ezlo. If a lot of others highly dislike the idea of a KDD remake, I will abandon the hold. I'll try to make some puzzles in the room. I'll make it a bit harder as well, to interest some of the more experienced DRODers like you Ezlo. Thanks for the feedback, it was nice to see another point of view. I'll hold off making some new rooms 'til I see what everyone thinks.

KDD is technically public domain, as I recall, because of shenanigans. HOWEVER.

This is not to say that remaking KDD is not, as the kids say 'old hat'. Because it is. It's a frigging seriously old hat.

There's sort of four, but none that include all 25 of the original levels:

Return to Dugan's Dungeon by brian_s
KDD First Level remake by Doom
Dugan's Dungeon Revisited by mrimer
King Dugan's Dungeon 2 by Neather2
