I was wondering about adding things that are like the balls, ants, jets and other enemies in Chip's challenge to the mix: They move straight until they hit a wall, and then always make the same turns . This behavior is zombie-like, they aren't homing in on Beethro, but sleepwalking straight until the hit a wall and then turn. You could use the doors to manipulate them by making them bump into things, block off enemies in strange ways, and do other interesting things. (Perhaps give them pointy fronts so that their orientation matters and so that they can kill baddies for you?) What do you think?

You can do it with scripting but it would be so much nicer if they had an instantly recognizable monster type like this.

I'd also like to see something like a roach, but with line of sight AI so they don't always treat Beethro like a center of attraction. Maybe a visible spider with different AI or something.

So, what puzzle could you make with them that you can't make now?

The problem with enemies that don't go towards Beethro is that unless they have a particular ability, they're not really that interesting. The only other puzzle I can think of could easily be done with a snake.

One puzzle that I've made involves a character that must keep on a certain marked path and move one space every turn. If that path is interfered with, then BOOM! something bad happens.

The NPC is not a monster, however; it can't kill Beethro. But that's just Swivel dropping in to say...
Something kind of relevant to this topic can be done with...
