a: he's referring specificially to Games magazine (I've never seen a puzzle in PC Games, anyway?)... but

b: not any particular puzzle or single item. he was just "mood setting" -- think average book of logic/math puzzles.

think average book of logic/math puzzles.

That's a relief... I seem to remember most of the puzzles being crossword, cryptogram, and other word-play type games with a few logic/math puzzles mixed in. But then, I haven't had a subscription to Games in a while, so its possible that my brain has adled (probably from not solving enough puzzles) or that they've changed the content.

Is there some sort of inverse relation between how much is known about a contest and how many people participate?

The "hint" I gave on the team board is the equivalent of the 5th Clue, so it wouldn't be fair to let you guys in. If you want, you can still e-mail me the Secret when you know it, and I'll tell you after the Reckoning how you would have done if you were really entered in the contest.
