I've managed to get the mimic onto the island, but now I can't seem to get it to move far enough to the right trapped in the little 3x3 room I'm in.

Can anyone give me a clue please?

The idea, as with most rooms of this sort, is to move the mimic a couple of steps at a time to get it next to an obstacle that keeps it from moving back with you.

To start out, you have enough room to get it from

These hints weren't enough for me: I got frustrated locked inside the 3x3 mimic manipulation room.

This Let's play (Jordan Shank) didn't give me the exact moves, but convinced me that it was possible.
