Here's the latest hold I've been working on, almost done.
It should be entirely playthroughable and is almost entirely non-linear (that even goes for rooms within a single level). I just need to do another 6 rooms or so, fill in all the level texts and come up with a better hold name and level names.

Notes for testers:
Briars uses the Basalt tileset.

Edit 1: Removed US in Shape Shifting 1S1W.
Edit 2: Fixed USs for Brains entrance, Briars 1N and Aumtlich 1N.
Edit 3: Changed Briars 1N, 1W, 1S, 1S1E. Shapeshifting 1N, 1N1W. Aumtlich 1N. (Still to correct 1S1E). Brains 1N, 1S (may still need to change 2E). Added Shapeshifting 2W.
Edit 4: Added hub room, changed 1S1E and 1E.
Brains: Added a room, ?fixed 1N+1S. Changed entrance and 1N1E.
Shapeshifting: Added a room.
Briars: Not sure what to do with 1S, left as is.
Stalwarts: 2N is fine.
Edit 5: Added checkpoints. Changed new brains room.
Edit 6: Changed brains 1N and 1S, Aumtlich 1S1E and Briars 1S.
Edit 7: Continue to change Brains 1N and 1S and Aumtlich 1S1E. Slight alteration to Brains 1S1E. Added some uninteresting level text.
Edit 8: Changed these rooms again. Added checkpoint. Changed Brains 1S3E.
Edits 9+10: Changed Brains: 1S3E

Is it going to have a story? If not, I'm sure you can think of some kind of witty name implying shapeshifting.

"Changers" "A Monster Adventure" "The Changeling" "Shifters"

I have a loop (using labels and goto), so that if you have changed into something else (say, back to Beethro)and step back on the gel baby tile again you will be changed back to a gel baby... in theory. In fact, no matter what I do these tiles only seem to be one use only - i.e. stepping back onto the tile will not turn you into a gel baby again if you've already used it.
Why is this?

If I had to guess, most likely suspect would be the script terminating due to "infinite loop checking". You *do* have a few Wait 0s in there to pause the script each turn, right?

Er..yeah, sure I included "wait 0".
On a completely unrelated note, the scripting works now.

There's no story (or not as yet). Shape shifting's only one of the levels, so not sure I want to use that as the theme of the whole hold.

Thanks for the suggestions.

Here's another question for you. As far as I understand it - a briar with nowhere to expand will cycle through maturing immature briar tiles that are next to pits. And the period of this cycle will depend on (a) how may briar roots there are and (b) how may briar tiles there are next to pits. So...how can the period switch between 5 and 6 when these 2 variables are kept constant?

Edit: I think this must have something to do with having (a) an even number and (b) an odd number. Is this right?

Probably something like there being 11 tiles next to pit and two roots. It will take six turns to expand, and then five.

This code would work for the situation you are looking at:
Label G
Wait 0
If
Player role Beethro
Goto E
Else
If
Player role wraithwing
goto E
Else
If (Continues).... (does not include gel baby)

Goto G
Label E
Player role Gel baby
Goto G

My new hold is now available for testing.

Here's an idea I just had.
One of the levels here is a grid of identical rooms connected to its neighbours. There are no walls or doors involved within each room. These rooms fit together to create a maze (i.e. because of the layout of the room, it has a unique logic such as "If entered from the east, can only be exited south but if entered from the north, can be exited south or west", or "can only be entered from the west and exited to the east" etc).
If this sounds interesting to you, please play through the level and see what you think.
Now, here's my idea. A few of us can make rooms of this format which can then all be put together to make a maze of this sort (if each person specifies the room's logic).
It should be a fun collaborative project and should be fun to play because of the variety of rooms. It will also create an interesting architectural meta-puzzle of piecing together a maze from the individual rooms.

If anyone's interested, I'll make a new topic for this project.

US (I would guess). You can do Shape Shifting 1S1W as Beethro, although it's very boring. Just stand on the door near the entrance. And the room needs checkpoints :)

Corrected in top post.

Okay! Now that room (1S1W) is what I have left from that level. Right now I'm not a fan of the room.

I really like shapeshifting, by the way. 1E was really hard, and needs more checkpoints. Specifically one that you can reach a bit earlier. I really liked the wubba and Gel Baby aplications :)

I have also finished Aumtlichs. Another great level! Minor US in 1N. You only need two decoys.

Edit: Briars done as well. Another nice level. Perhaps a bit easier than the rest?

Could you please attach a demo for this? (Or tell me how you did it).

Funny, I thought people would like Shape shifting 1S1W. I definitely enjoy the 2 Beethro chase sequences and then the final completion sequence.
How could I improve it?

A demo for Aumtlichs 1N:

Oh, and I've completed Grid and Brains. Sugestion: Make smalish segments in the rooms which you can reach (by crumbly walls) once you've reached the end level stairs. In these segments there can be some kind of mini-rooms, but in particular you can let out Briar into the main segments, which will make all rooms completable.

Oh, and brains had some really nice puzzles. Especially 2N1E and 1N1E :)

I still can't complete my last shapeshifting room, though. Definitly the hardest room of them all, for me.

Not sure how this is possible, given I've only released 2 versions and have not changed Brains entrance at all, but you level does not work at all (Beethro places one mimic and leaves via the stairs)

Try this.

I put two mimics all the way east, have one push against the other's sword, then use it to kill the brain. I then have three mimics left to kill the 2 babies.

I appreciate your new attempt but, what the...?
Each time the demo ends by Beethro going down the stairs on the left. It says it's either corrupted from from a version of drod with different gameplay behaviour.
I'm using 3.2.0.78. Is this a bug, or have you somehow got hold of another version of that hold from the one I've got?
In my one, Beethro starts 2 tiles east of level exit stairs.

I need stronger hints for Shapeshifting 1S1W. It's the last room I have left in the hold (except for the final shapeshifting room). The rest of the hold seems excelent to me, but I haven't played it with the latest official patch.

Thanks all. I shall update shortly, but am baffled as to why it should make a difference. Has there been a change in mimic movement since version 78??

Here's a demo for ShapeShifting 1S1W
