Dude, you're gonna hate TCB then... I predict it will be all puzzles after puzzles. Maybe even going as far as a puzzle in every room.

You know, here's a great fact about TCB: you don't actually have to see any of the pre-game hype in order to appreciate the game itself when it comes out. If the hype, and the puzzles around the hype, bother you, then ignoring them is a good and valid policy.

Yes, but at this point, the amount of work involved to get information about the game is souring me on the game itself, which is irritating.

It is either that or not provide any information at all, because it is dreadfully upsetting providing too much information, doing a blowout, then disappointing people because they got their hopes up to the point where no-one could fulfil them.

See Twilight Princess.

I disagree. The bit about hating TCB. Shame on you. Unless there is new tar that's purple and grows trianglarly and with spikes like something horrible out of Trauma Center.

To be honest I can't keep track of all these screenshots so I'm going to assume I've seen them all. :blush

Well, I certainly disagree. There are quite a few rooms in TCB without any puzzles in them. Why, the very first room of TCB has no puzzles. Still, there's over 300 rooms with puzzles in them (rough estimate), so it still might not be appropriate for Banjooie.

More to the point, we *are* releasing information that's not hidden or protected - there have been monthly preview postings for a few months now. And there will be more soon. But we're also posting some more stuff which is hidden, for the benefit of those who enjoy that sort of thing - plus, it's fun for us. And from where I'm sitting, if I do something which some people seem to enjoy and the only person that complains is Banjooie, then I did a good job.

Wow, that's informative.

Now, Beethro sheaths his sword when he enters the city. So, since there isn't any puzzle in the first room, that's fine.

So, I'm assuming in the second or so room some Imperial person goes "Oh no, the roaches are eating everybody!" and then Beethro whips out his sword and kills the roaches. Unless somehow there are three hundred rooms of puzzles where Beethro talks to people and hits orbs, but... doesn't kill anything.

Just so people don't read too much into my message, note that there are no puzzles in the first room of KDD or JtRH either.

I considered the very first room of JtRH to have a puzzle. Granted, a puzzle slightly easier than a similar room in the tutorial, but still. Anyway, puzzle or monsters or no, I would have been surprised if the very first room of TCB wasn't trivial to exit.

Eytan's got a good point. The list of Things That Confuse And Anger Banjooie grows daily, and there always seems to be some kind of mopey spoilsport on a forum (although we don't yet have one that's a mopey spoilsport with an overblown sense of entitlement). It's probably in the terms of use.

Hey Banjooie, if you really don't like it, and want to see the screenshot, just ask. I know I would tell you where it was. I think that all the screenshots should be public to everyone that asks. The people who want a hunt get a hunt, and the people who don't get a screenshot! Everybody wins!

If it's any consolation, I've been consistent about this since roughly 75%. It's not that I'm overly concerned about the screenshot, and I admit you've done excellent jobs of making it /worthwhile/ puzzles to get all this nonsense with.

However, I'm a little mystified that I'm being villified for enjoying DROD, but not the not-pron esque elements of the pre-game hype, and /especially/ confused as to how a game isn't being hyped if you're requiring puzzles to get to all the hype.

I mean.. what was Ilovebees, if not hype?

Well for one, it generates interest and keeps people on the site. Besides, there is plenty of info on TCB that isn't hidden in some sort of puzzle, like that TCB confirmation thread, or the hyperlinks above the bar. Its just that there better, more prettier titbits are hidden away.

Banjooie - It wasn't my intention to vilify you, I was just somewhat amused at your reaction, and the blatant falsehoods within.

Also, frankly, this is effective hype. It keeps people excited. It may not be effective for you, but it's effective to enough people to be worthwhile.

Beyond that, there is a definite policy of keeping hype levels low. Erik isn't interested in pre-release hype, he wants the game to be finished first, and *then* marketed. As an indie game, we don't have to compete for store shelves, or magazine ads, or deal with a business plan that requires immediate results. If the game is out and released for a month before most people hear about it - so what?

At the moment, the previews and spoilers are there for the hardcore fans and the people willing to work a bit extra for them. That's mostly for our amusement and theirs, not to sell the game.

Well, I thought this would be a post asking for help, but the traditional rule of asking for help in DROD kicked in and I found it. Much to my dismay though, I already knew (Or indirectly knew of) the vast majority of the picture. Ah well, such is life.

Edit: Are you sure that picture should be PD? It uses graphics that I'm fairly sure shouldn't be copied...

In the interest of tl;dr, I'm secreting eytanz's quotes or something.
Click here to view the secret text
I didn't think you in particular were, I just thought that's where things as a whole were going. As for 'blatant falsehoods', well, I interpret things in a highly original manner. Or something. That's my story, sticking to it.
Click here to view the secret text
I didn't say it wasn't effective. I'd certainly say I'm in the minority here in not liking it, I'm just saying, 'Hi, there's a minority you're free to ignore that doesn't like it.'
Click here to view the secret text
Which, again, is cool. Company policy is company policy, I'm just the worthless minority who, right now, is saying 'Hey, I don't like what's in this thread.' I hardly expect Caravel to go 'oh wow banjooie doesn't like this let's change our strategy', but I'm just, you know, sharing my opinion.
Click here to view the secret text
Okay, cool. If it's just for your own amusement, alright, awesome. Again: I am a worthless minority stating his worthless minority opinion. I'm not alluding to a silent masses that agrees with me, in fact I'm betting that the usual Silent Majority is like 'Wow, these guys are being highly original'. Again, I'm mostly venting, and I hardly expect anyone to agree with me.
