A new version of an older hold with:

Scripting, challenges, new levels, new secrets, harder versions of old rooms, JtRH aesthetics...

This may be really bad forum etiquette, but thought I'd bring this up. Only 20 people have played it, and I'm worried that people aren't playing it because its an update of an old hold.

Yes, it has some of the same rooms, but I think there's enough new stuff there to make it worth playing. And if you haven't played the original, you've no excuse (well, I guess there still are potentially many, but you know what I mean)

I'd say there are more than 20 players on this hold: you have 132 downloads on the forum, so I suppose the number is somewhat higher than the CaravelNet delvers alone.

I'm playing through your hold myself right now, but I am a notoriously slow player (meaning twenty holds at once take a lot longer to complete than one after the other). Still, I might just finish it before the Eighth breaks out.

On an aside, the rating is probably biased downwards at the moment: there are only three votes, and one of them was mine, only intended to make the hold available on CaravelNet. I think I gave a random vote (the standard?), but I probably ought to change that...

I recently played it through twice, even though I played the original. Still only got 21% of secrets though. Sometimes I just can't be bothered looking for them, I get enough eyestrain as it is. :glasses

Wearing those shades certainly will make it harder to spot them :)
Thanks for the comments, guys.

Y'know, I thought had beaten this one, but it seems not. I am a few levels in front of this, but if I do a restore, I haven't completed this one. Summat's wrong.

Heheh, drink and think are definitely two things that don't mix where I'm concerned. Last night I was convinced I had completed that room, but I just took a look at my demo's, and I haven't. In the sober light of day, I remembered the nearest I got was 2 moves short, but now I can't get near that and I'm back to being about 10 moves short.

There *is* a lot of secret room it seems. Definitively a lot longer than the AE hold.

There seems to be a problem though, unless I am grossly mistaken. Spoilery details below. I *was* grossly mistaken, so point removed.

25% of all secrets, still plenty to go.

Something else I just noticed:

I started the hold about five days ago because I had not noticed it before. I will not give a detailed review.

But the hold rating is about to get a little bit higher.

. . . also. . . any hints for the secret underground passages 1 South?

But I guess this is the wrong forum for that.

Yay. I just conqured this, and it was a great hold, but is there any way to explore the upper 2 levels after you've left them? It's what's keeping me from mastering the hold. I got 2 rooms in the secret level, but, without a way back to the first 2 levels, it seems I'll have to replay most of the hold, save for the fist 2 levels, since they are linked, again.

I'm going to assume you're both talking about having missed secret rooms or something... Presumably, once you've cleared the hold, you'll be able to go back in and finish any rooms you may have missed via the Restore function. If this behaves like other holds, clearing the secret rooms via Restore will save the rooms as cleared, whether you go on to clear the whole hold again or not. :hasn't cleared this hold yet so isn't sure if that's what you're referring to:

Yes, except that, you know... Do I dare tell you? This hold is peculiar. Very much so, in fact.

Incidentally, I'm also at 96% of all secrets; you can guess what 4% I'm missing. I *will* master the hold - eventually.

Just finished this hold (well, except for the Nine Rooms...but I'll get to those soon enough).

I really enjoyed playing it, with one fairly glaring exception:

Still and all...great puzzles, very enjoyable. I am looking forward to the next one (Domain of the Grinfidel, I believe).

I personally like the forced secret system. This is the second Grinfidel hold I have completed, and my favorite so far.

I'm giving it 6 brains and a 8 rating.

I decided to come back & try to master this hold.
I'm missing 1 room in secret underground passages though.

I've found and conquered everything except 1W & now I can't see anywhere to go to get there.

please will someone give me some hints on how to find it?

Thanks!
