Hello Mark, I bet Alaska is starting to see some nice weather this time of year. Welcome. How did you first hear about or start playing DROD? I found it as part of a free game set on a Linux distribution and have been playing it off and on since.

Hi Mark! Welcome to the Cherry Dimension!

I first discovered DROD when I put in the ancient (1997) shareware disk that had been collecting dust for who-knows-how-long and had Webfoot DROD on it. And I still like it better than AE.

Yup. Everything they changed except for adding checkpoints and a level editor, I liked better in Webfoot. Especially the sound effects, with Beethro's deep voice and that weird scream! I still can't accept Beethro's voice in the new games as Beethro.

Edition: I also like that they added special effects and a sound for breaking a wall. And probably the worst change was the music but that's not too bad because you can change it, which I did.

I wasn't surprised that you did that. I was surprised that you responded to a robot with actual human conversation. (or in the odd case that Mark is an actual human being that he responded to a robot.)

It seemed to me like Mark was looking for a topic that he could introduce himself in, instead of making a new one. I suppose he could be a robot but better to be friendly than to ignore him and think the community is rather unwelcoming ;)

Given the number of Google hits for "i am Mark from USA ,Ak,Anchorage", all in the last two months, all with the same miscapitalization ("i", "Ak"), all with the same weird spacing around the commas, I wouldn't hold my breath if I were you.

While Tahnan proves that he is a robot, I don't see what makes you so sure that he's a robot. I can definitely see a real person saying that and he doesn't seem to follow the robot patterns.

There's the fact that his message was entirely contentless. He didn't say anything about the community, or why he liked it, just "hi i like this place". That's a decent indication of spambottiness.

Contentless messages are also a indication of newbies too sometimes, and it only took a few seconds to reply to him/it ;)

I was led to wonder why someone would have spambots such as these. It seems the only purpose would be to waste the time of those replying to it. Or waste time discussing those who do reply to it. Hurrump. Dirty bot. :ras

On an active forum like this one, a new member turning up and posting "Hi look at all these cheap pills" gets shut down pretty quickly. To combat that, these days the spammers try to give a human-looking first impression, wait a few days for the post to drop off the front page, and then go back and edit in links, change signature etc. The idea is that a search engine is much less put off by reading a week-old post than the average forum mod.

If you look at the first posts of everyone who has posted in this thread - everyone (bar the spambots) shows that they have some knowledge of DROD.
I haven't yet seen a forum regular whose first post was along the lines of "I am using the internet and this is a forum"

Indeed, the problem still persists. It's not like the keys are jamming though, it works fine with any other program, even when the TCB window is still open. The program itself just starts lagging after a while and needs to be reset.

It hasn't been too much of a nuisance, perhaps one day I'll figure out how to fix it since other Mac users apparently don't experience it.

How's the writing going? You are working on a book, correct?

I am indeed, in between writing poems, and I have 58,000 words of it done.
