Since I put the effort in, I’m posting my comments even though they aren't applicable anymore. The only thing I changed to the text below was to remove the rating for each entry. And of course, no unhidetime tags are necessary since it doesn't affect the judging.
×First I want to thank everyone who didn’t enter. The naming took a lot of effort; judging took more. The thought of having to rate thirty! Oi!
Effort aside, it was fun reading through the entries. Generally I preferred nicknames that would work as nicknames (short and snappy), as well as those that derived from aspects of people’s traits (“personality”, avatars, personal info, etc.) instead of just anagrams or randomness, though there were some exceptions. After going through all the entries, I think it was probably better not to include explanations. I found them distracting, and besides, a good nickname should stand on its own. As an aside: I’m starting to think I’d better change my avatar – too many cat references. (And hey, doesn't anyone notice the dog in the shot?)
Below each comment, I included a name from that person’s list to use as a reminder of their entries for those reading these comments.
bdwing – Some are better than others, but overall a good effort.
(Dischorran: Mr. Freeze)
skell – Considering how he started, I would have enjoyed reading the rest.
(Kwakstur: Duck of Doom)
Rabscuttle – I thought these were a lot of fun. There is obviously a pretty creative mind in there if this is what came out of just reading the application thread.
(coppro: ChipEater)
noma – I tried to keep my nicknames short and have them reflect something about the person.
(Znirk: Oddjob)
Bombadil – Not bad, but I didn’t feel too many of them would work as nicknames. (Though I liked mine
.)
(Rabscuttle: Chimera)
Sillyman – Points for a cute idea, but a bit of an cop out.
(jbluestein: 1st Applicant)
kie – Wow. Sure, many entrants used anagrams, but to anagram everyone and to (mostly) make it work is pretty impressive.
(coppro: pop orc)
hyperme – A good effort and very descriptive, but I can see only a few of these as viable nicknames.
(zwetschenwasser: The One with the Guy in the Avatar)
Dischorran –While these aren’t technically what I’d think of when I think of nicknames (they’re more like titles than anything else) this is my very favourite entry. I love the idea and it shows a lot of creativity and flair. (See. He is just like Ernie
)
(Tim, the Fearsome Foe of the Forlornly Foolish!)
Techant – Definite points for research, humour and DRoDishness
(Bombadil: 13th Purchasing Agent)
jbluestein – I like it. Solid entry and the nicknames work.
(Casebier: Tweety Bird)
zwetschenwasser – While this was a very creative, fun and eccentric entry, it lost points because, for the most part, I don’t feel these could ever really be used as nicknames.
(Bdwing: Bloomingdale’s Hot Wings)
DanielFishman – There was some good stuff here, but I felt it was uninspired and most of the nicknames were too long.
(skell: The Start of Everything inside a Skull which has lost You)
Briareos – Creative entry but somehow the names don’t grab me.
(12th Archivist: First Of Many)
Maurog – While I have a feeling this was done quickly, that’s how nicknames should be given. These are snappy, catchy & often apt.
(Bombadil: "
Mad Hatter"
)
NobleHelium – Obviously a lot of effort was expended, but overall the names didn’t really strike the right note for me.
(eb0ny: Starbaby)
Znirk – Cute and clever, but generally not terribly nickname-y (though I like mine)
(brian_s: Food For Zombei_s)
contest entries.
