In the Eighth, mysteries are to remain unsolved. This hold represents one of them. Despite the deep story, it is meant to start easy and end hard, while introducing objects. This is directed to newer players, those who know the movements.

The story is pretty interesting, and there are a few cutscenes right now. There is a low number of them (3), but there might be more later on.

Well, here we go. Please comment the hold, and tell me if any part is too hard. I want to keep a nice balance of the dfficulty curve, just like in JtRH.

Version 1.1
-3N3W is backtrackable.
-The hold is now anyone edit.

Version 1.2
-Checkpoints added
-level 2 stairs lead to level 3.
-fixed some more backtracting bugs.

Version 2.0
-Levels 4 and 5 added, fixed all backtracking bugs.
-Made some rooms easier.

Version 2.1
-Fixed a naughty backtracking bug with 1N4W and 1N3W.

Version 3.0
-Levels 6 and 7 made, which were playtested for backtrack bugs. There doesn't seem to be any. Of course, these are meant to be as difficult (or a tiny weeny bit more) as level 5 is.
-2 interludes featuring a secondary character.

Version 3.1
-Removed secret passage in 3N1W of level 3
-Angled arrow was changed into wall in 1E of level 4
-The guide in 1S2E of level 5 is now invulnerable.

Version 3.2
-Level 5 stairs now lead to level 6.
-Level 5: 2W scripting was changed so the character leaves the room even if you don't grab the potion.

Version 4.0
-Levels 8, 9, 10 and 11 are complete. 2 rooms of level 12 are also added.
-Fixed the staircase thing in 3N of level 5.
-level 6: 1W is now much easier.

Version 5.0
-Level 12 completed with 11 BBPs (Brain & Briar Puzzles) and one scene.
-Level 4: 1N's wall was lowered by 1 square.
-Some bugs mentionned by Chaco are fixed.

Version 6.0

"WARNING! This is the next-to-last release of the hold. Not many people have commented and bug reported. Please, they are pretty important for me to make a sucessful hold."

-Level 13 and 14 added, with a bit of level 15. The end is nigh!
-Some bugs mentionned by chaco were fixed.
-The custom graphics are re-instored.

Version 6.1

-Stair bugs, backtrack issues, compatibility issues and more. The hold should now be rid of these.

-Level 12: 3N1W has now an invisibility potion in it.

VERSION 7.0
-The hold is now finished! You can also have your voice talent show up in the hold (check my latest post)!

Version 8.0 (FINALE)
-The hold's secret rooms and post-master level have been inserted.
-The whole hold should be finishable now.
-Sorry, but I won't be taking voice acting. No one has sent me a voice recording, so I think it's best to keep it as it is.
-Level 14: 1N1E has been made much easier. The old room is now in the post-master level, unrequired.

Version 8.1
-Thanks to chaco, many things were changed and fixed.

Version 8.2
-Level 15: Entrance can now be passed after one clears the level.

Version 8.3
-Level 12: 2N1W has been made scripting independant.
-Level 10's secret has checkpoints.

Version 8.4
-The guide in level 5: 1S now moves out of the room AND disappears.

FINALLY! THE HOLD IS READY FOR HA VERIFICATION!

Blue: Additions
Orange: Changes
Red: Fixes

I can't exit the first level. When you beat the level, you can't exit 3N3W because there is no orb to open the eastern door from the eastern entrance.

Oh, and please make this anyone edit.

You can't get back from 1N3W, the gate blocks you.

Jeez, two bugs less than thirty minutes after released. Did you run through and test this yourself?

Edit: And, you can't get back from Second Level 3W, because there's no platform. Then if you could get back from 3W, there's no platform to cross the water in 2W.

Edit2: And, the second level stairs end the hold.

I did now. Everything has been found and fixed before I came back. I always forget everything, do I?

Let me add some checkpoints, and I'll release 1.2.

Released. The hold should be completable now. Sorry for the really bad inconvenience.

Mastered!

This is a fairly fun hold, with some nice puzzles. Level 3 had the best so far in the hold.

In 2N2W, I didn't get Gunthro's hint for a couple of tries.

Rooms like 3N1W and 1N1W were really easy.

And in 3N, there is no reason to beat the trapdoor puzzle.

I will look forward to more.

The trapdoor puzzle is to reach the X, but I have to admit it wasn't the best thing to do. As of the other rooms, they are meant to be easy.

Did you find any rooms to be a tad bit hard for the newer players?

Level 3, 1N2W. That is too hard for beginners. I know wraithwing movement, and I had a hard time. The new players probably don't know wraithwing behavior. That is not a good room for beginners.

A true smitemaster would have finished First Level: Thrice North Once West without using the alcove :)

This is a fun, interesting, easy hold. I'm currently about to go to the second level, and I'll give you more commentary as I play through.

I am experienced, and yet I got stuck on
Second Level: 4W, since there is no way to beat the roaches that I have found yet. In addition, Second Level: 1N3W - Not enterable from south. Of course, if 1N3W is beatable, then I understand how to enter 1N3W. BTW, 4W does not seem to be a beginner room.

4W: Try dropping them off! :/
1N3W: Possible, you must enter from 1N4W.

4W is meant to teach the newbies that you can drop roaches in the water. This is why newbies must always read the scrolls, because information there can be useful.

Jeff,

I just played through the first 5 levels.

Overall, pretty fun.

I didn't find any serious problems.

Level 3:3N1W- secret passage goes nowhere.
L4:1E- Maybe make the angled arrow a wall otherwise waking the eyes doesn't matter.
L5:1S2E- could kill character

Somewhere you wrote "sheated" instead of "sheathed".

You know, you don't need that invisibility potion to conquer the room :)

Sure there is. You might be approaching it from the wrong side.

1N1E is being a little tricky for me, though. I'll figure it out soon enough, though.

EDIT:

Hahahaha. I'm being silly. I figured it out.

It's a real "slap yourself" room. :)

EDIT AGAIN:

Maybe in Fifth Level 2W you could remove a wall next to the invisibility potion for those who want to try the room without being invisible?

And, the stairs in Fifth Level Once West seems to end the hold, even though looking in the editor reveals I've still got a ways to go. Where to next?

As of lvl5: 2W, I had some trouble doing the script because the NPC doesn't leave the room if you don't get the potion. But I'll fix it.

The stairs Fifth Level: Thrice North end the hold. Perhaps it should be impossible to get to these stairs?

In my opinion, the puzzle of Sixth Level: Once West needs to be made in a smaller area. Currently the movement order of the wubbas is finicky enough to make it difficult to shield yourself effectively from the roaches.

Seventh Level: Twice North Once West seems to be impossible, as the bridge must be dropped in order to leave the room, however, it's impossible to drop the bridge and survive because the arrangement of trapdoors in the northeast corner guarantees that the one support at that end has to be dropped on your way in.

Adding one more trapdoor so that there are three trapdoors adjacent to the northeast corner of the bridge would solve this problem - come in on one, leave by the other.

Overall, you're doing pretty well. Keep up the good work!

EDIT:

My mistake - Seventh Level Twice North Once West is solvable. You tricked me with that one. :)

Putting some checkpoints in Eighth Level: Once North would be awesome, though.

Builders will show up in Eighth Level: Quarce North Once West early. I think this is because you have two variables "buildersfree" and "buildersarrived" and "buildersarrived" is set to 1 when you enter the room.

Ninth Level: Once South has backtracking problems - the red door closes when you re-enter, and there's no way back to the starting segment if you didn't solve all the rooms.

After finishing the ninth level, you come back to the eighth level and the builders show up for no reason. Then you skip to the eleventh level. I think this is because the ninth level goes to the eighth level and not the tenth level, since it seems you rescue the builders in the tenth level.

Tenth Level: Twice South, Thrice East can be done without using any decoy potions, although the room is a lot easier if you do use them.

Keep going! Although the hold is somewhat linear in terms of which levels to complete, the puzzles aren't too hard. However, there are some lynchpins and "Aha!" moments. Twelfth Level: Once North is a pretty interesting room.

And is the Bullet Bill the Dark Architect seal you were talking about? :P

As of the rest, except a fix in the next version.
