I don't want to ruin the surprise of the contest, but let me give you a little more information.
I spent a little time last week and created what amounts to a prototype for a massively multiplayer online game based on jumping snakes. Well, "
massively"
probably isn't the right word, but even with my shoddy little prototype we could handle hundreds of simultaneous players. I think the more people we have, the more interesting this contest will be. We've got maybe 40 or so people who have posted puzzle solutions now, and I'm aiming for at least 50 entrants before we begin. But why not go a little larger? We could have a hundred or more, and when you see the whole thing finally begin, I think you will be in awe. Crazy writhing, slithering, jumping snakes scattered over a vast grid, each under human control, fighting for vanishing scraps of open space. It's gonna freak you out!
To that end, if you have been sitting on the fence, I strongly urge you to enter a puzzle solution so that you won't be left out of the contest. Even if you feel you don't have much time to commit next month, it is the kind of contest in which you can enjoy a limited participation. Also, if you have any friends that like puzzle-solving and strategy, you might mention the game to them. If you are a member of another forum that you post on, and it is appropriate, you could post a link back to the
Jumping Snake Puzzle page. I mean, if you want to.
I'll be properly announcing the contest this weekend. Then I'll leave another week or so for people to declare themselves as entrants. Seriously, you don't want to miss this one! It's one of those cool experimental contests we do every so often, and I think this will be our most ambitious one to date.
