What's up with the orb puzzles in this room and in L4 1S1E?

I solved them by making an orb/door grid, but I don't think that's how it's supposed to be solved. What's with the clue given in the top note?

I've worked out each combination, and, for example, no matter what the starting ABCDEF is for the 6 doors, you always end up with certain things after each clue. Say, after spider, you will have CCCOEO where C is closed, O is open, and E is what you started with.

i can't figure out this room at all! :(

i am not supposed to kill all of the roaches in the first sub-room, or am i? also, it does not seem possible to walk over all the trapdoors in one go.

do i have to use the mimics to accomplish both of these tasks afterwards? i'm really at a loss here..

You are correct on all counts.

I've tried this room dozens of times. I gave up for several weeks in despair, but had to come back. And I'm STILL stuck. No matter what I try, I can't crack the snake and tar puzzle. Can anyone offer some help? Please.

I'm not sure whether I did the same thing when I previously solved this room and just now. But no matter, I got it.

{sob} I can't even get past the first roach roomlet. The most promising way to hit the orb looks to be with the sword pointing northwest . . . while I don't die immediately I do die in very short order.

I can get as high as 15 moves before dying, no more. That is a sorry performance indeed. What is the "key move" here?

Thanks -

Whew. Got it. Thanks.

And now I get to figure out how to cover four separate mimic requirements with three mimics.

Maybe it can be done both ways, but I still think it's an advantage to be visible when dealing with the serpent.

The evil eye isn't that much of a problem.

I'm hoping that by posting I can get lucky like many others and figure this out minutes after posting. Where am I going wrong?

Alright, I seem to need 4 mimics, but I have 3. To recap:

This room is a prime example of why I subscribe to the one-puzzle-per-room paradigm. :thumbsdown You know what, I think I wouldn't mind a demo.

I just solved the room now, and I did it differently - I was visible for that section, and I managed to kill the eye by myself while I was invisible. I had to use schep's solution to trap the serpent between some tar babies and the tar.

Thanks. Once I knew that was actually the intended course I was able to focus and do it.
