...go and download SubTerra and start playing it, and reach for the backspace key when you make a mistake. Repeatedly.

You get the job because DROD is so sexy.

You take extreme care not to face anyone directly in close proximity.

You wonder how your friend manages to find you while you are drinking grape soda.

You randomly develop a New York accent.

Hmm... Maybe I should share with you some actual experiences that indicate excessive DROD playing is in effect...

You dream of DROD.

You instantly begin quoting good ol' S39 whenever someone says "Wait there" or something to that effect.

You create a custom level just so you can easily kill the slayer, and you feel incredibly relieved hearing the drawn-out and disturbing sounds of his death.

You sing DROD songs at your friend.

They recognize the songs.

They sing them back at you.

You realize that neither of you have any form of life whatsoever and you pride yourselves on it.

You have DROD music on your playlist (Yes, I know lots of you do, but I'm proud of it nonetheless.)

You stub your toe and try to hit backspace.

...

You could go on forever...

You've been playing DROD for half an hour, hearing all the sounds correctly, but somehow faintly... then you realize they were faint because your speakers were off and you were hearing the sounds in your head.

the phrase "stop the snake! I want to get off!" has real meaning to you.

EDIT: or maybe the phrase hadn't occured to you, but now that I've said it, you just thought of a score of rooms where you'd want to say it.

-You're in a math class, trying to figure out a way clear a DROD room. While you think, you can hear the level's music and you visualize the room in your head.

Of course, when the instructor catches you not paying attention you say, "Oh, I was just trying to solve a word problem. See?"

Beethro stands in a room, that is 18x18 squares in size. There is a force arrow trap in all four corners of the room. Beethro is in position (11,0), and there is a roach queen in positions (11,5), (11,-5), and (14,0).

(a)If Beethro is facing northeast and has already made 7 movements, which roach queen should he go after first?

(b)Graph the 4 points mentioned above.

The instructor looks over the problem, which is just a fake, then he says, "Carry on then," Because he can't solve the problem. You then go back to thinking of a way to solve the REAL problem.

-Also, if you sit here and make up something like that stuff I typed above at 5:40 AM. (Too much DROD and time on my hands)

If you have spent hundreds if not thousends of hours on writing a fantasybook of more than threehundredthousand words and suddenly realises that you would be equally glad for topping the highscore list as you would be if the damn book ever got published.

If you have three major tests in complex math or physics within a week and to your horror realises that you anyway spend far more time on playng DROD than you do on your studies.

If you are more bothered by the fact that you probably won´t be able to connect to caravel.net or drod.net during summer than the fact that you have no means of making money.

You were just forced to format your hard drive and re-install your OS. Everything, EVERYTHING from your hard drive is erased and the only real problem that you can think of is:

"How am I going to play through all of those DROD holds again? HOW?!" :weep

Well, this is true people. Due to a faulty mouse...so suddenly, everything got screwed up and I'll have to get back to the drawing board...or just download loads of programs over again. Well, DROD comes first, duh!

"How will I play through all of those holds again...?" :weep

When you are an avid rpg player, your PC will play midi only through QuickTime since the format and you can't be bothered to call you friends who may know how to solve the problem 'cause the 4 rpg games you've downloaded before DROD can wait "a little longer".

When you find yourself amongst so many people who are, at the very least, good at maths and you are not fazed and/or appalled :D

old topic I know, but I had to bump this up:

You know you play fairly too much DROD if you are an hour late to work because you were busy beating level 9 of JTRH, then, when you get to work and your boss asks you why you were late, you ramble on about roaches and Really Big Swords (tm) and he just gives you a look :blink and that means he's not very happy with you, especially since he didn't understand a word of what you just said. Then he gets really :angry when you keep using run-on sentences trying to make it so that he can't get a word in edgewise so that maybe you can get off the hook so that he's not as upset which would be good because then you could stop sweating because you're somewhat nervous because you where late because you were playing DROD.....

Yeah, I did that. :rolleyes

This was a good thread that deserved to be brought back.

You know you play too much DROD when...

you would rather play DROD than do that science project that is 50% of your grade

you post in this thread :)

-You try to get rid of water seepage by repeatedly stabbing the wall

-Whenever your mother closes her eyes, you freeze and carefully examine any nearby mud

-No matter how close you are to a doorway or how large it is, you're certain you can't see through it until you actually enter the room

-When a relative has a baby, everyone else asks, "Boy or girl?" You ask, "Tar or Mud?"

-Evil voices in your head start saying "Come on, you've studied enough for the big math exam. No one will know if you spend the rest of the night finishing The Odyssey and Beethro goes Fourth. Just do a couple more rooms. You know you want to..." If I fail out of grad school I'm blaming DROD :selftwak

Re: You know you play fairly too much DROD if...

-a feeling of utter complacency towards things un-DROD-ly surfaces (not entirely true for me).
-you've been recommended for SMA (Smitemasters Anonymous), a subsidiary of PADD (Parents Against Dungeon Deaths). (Heck yes!)
-you can diagram, on graph paper, a goblin's movement in any given situation (No, not yet).
-if you've ever edited the DROD Wikipedia article. (Er, yes.)
-if you think that the AE tar babies look adorable, if not antsy (I confess, world!)

You know you play fairly too much DROD if...

....you are trying to think of a response to the "You know you play fairly too much DROD if..." thread, and then think of a good (and not made up) response whilst away from the computer, which you then forget when you next get online. :~(

Errr, ok, so yes, I've just forgotten what I was going to write... A funny 'drod-reminding' situation occured to me when I was out recently.. All I remember now, though, is that I thought "haha, one for the 'playing too much...' thread, but not the thing itself........ Hmm, no doubt I'll remember the second I post this!

You know you play fairly too much Drod if you do several (20-999) middle-mousebutton clicks on a link linking to the forum to open it several times and then click the bar, go to next tab, click the bar, go to next tab..........

You know you play fairly too much Drod if the biology teacher asks you what snake you know and what you have to do if you meet them and you answer "Normal snakes and rattle snakes. Normal ones have to be lured into a dead-end, the ones with the rattle have to be cut."

You know you play fairly too much Drod if your school is doing a "School as staate" project and you suggest THE EIGHTH as the staate´s name and GRECKLES as its currency.... (I did it !)

You know you play fairly too much Drod if you think that all caves are bright enough to have a good sight.

You know you play fairly too much Drod if you found a dungeon building/cleaning company.

You know you play fairly too much Drod if you are in court and have to do the oath and say "Within these walls great knowledge grows...."
