I'm often not too keen on "maze-y" rooms like this either, but I thought I'd hit on a fairly original idea, which I was fairly pleased with.

Quadrants aren't a bad approach, at least at the start.
Thanks for all the help so far! Have added in quite a few more checkpoints, for greater playability.

Well, I do like the rooms more now that I'm done with them, ;)

It's more a frustration level as I realize that I'm trying the exact same path that failed me the last five times I try it. The complexity gets to me sometimes.

But they're good...

Well, I'll be banging on this some more later tonight. I imagine I'll get it solved eventually.

I do think it was a good choice to ditch the puzzle that was originally in 1N1E. Not that it was a bad puzzle, but the replacement is much better.

OK, all done. The final exit room on Halls of Variation was a very good variant. I did get it eventually, but not without your hint about the goal.

The trick in post-master 1N is an extremely cheap trick. My hat is off.

Have updated to 3.1 and this, as expected, affects briar patch 4E and 1S1E, and unexpectedly 2E. So I've changed them.
I think the hold's done now, so am submitting it.

I'm surprised it affects 1S1E...why is that? Something about growing diagonally across hot tiles or something?

Oops, 2S1E. Good point.
Submitted now. Unfortunately wubbas (and ?fegundi) are counted as monsters. I was looking forward to seeing "Number of Monsters:1"

One thing I found.
In TFR 2N1E One can place the clone on the island, which kinda makes the room trivial.

Not sure I'm following you there. By "island" do you mean the place where all the gel is, and where the clone potion is? That's the intended solution. If you mean to place it directly on the conquer token (unintended), how do you drop the black door?

Well, I thought one singular normal floor tile near the entrance, so I thought it was intended to put it therel , to drop the second row of trapdoors(Of course, I only now realize that in that case it would be impossible to exit the room).

It is (or at least was at one time...haven't checked recently) possible to drop the clone on the completion token. It may even be possible to solve the room from this configuration, but it certainly wasn't trivial. I think I played with it and decided that it might be doable, but the intended solution was actually easier.

Here's a demo the The Briar Patch: 4E.

Since the SE clone has a clear path to the final pressure plate, all I need to do is make sure the other clones are in safe locations and then I'm all set.

OK, slight problem. The AC adaptor for my old laptop blew - a new one would cost £100. I'd been thinking of getting a new laptop anyway, so did so. So my copy of DROD's sitting on a computer with no available power supply and no battery. I've got a demo version of DROD up and running on my new laptop, but no way currently of getting to my player files, holds etc. Of course, now I'll have to master the entire hold in the demo version to be able to edit the file.
Any bright ideas?
Putting that aside: the last pressure plate should not be accessible, it should be on the other side of some water (i.e. you have to wait til the briar gets there). If this is not the case, this is an easy fix: could someone add in a tile of water? If this is not the problem, I'm not too sure what to do here.

I dunno, even if it is a laptop, you should be able to get the hard drive out of there, and then connect it to a friend's desktop.
Or, if you're lucky, a friend of yours has a laptop with the same type of battery. In that case you could borrow his battery.

More to the point, editing the hold on the new laptop will change the Hold ID, which will mean that everyone who wants to review the change will have to play all the way through again. Unless someone works some magic on it.

Putting that aside: the last pressure plate should not be accessible, it should be on the other side of some water (i.e. you have to wait til the briar gets there). I should be more specific: It's not actually the last pressure plate (the one that allows access to the completion token) that I can reach. It's the pressure plate that drops the door to the platform. Essentially, the SE clone can just head straight for that plate and the dance of the other clones can be mostly ignored.

There's still some clone saving involved, just not as much and nowhere near as tight as it was originally.

That said, I will post a screenshot of the room, and I could always edit it up for you if we figure out the right fix, since I've mastered it and have edit privileges. Or I could make a copy of the hold that's Anyone Edit and you can take that one. Or something like that...whatever works for you, basically.

The best way is to try to get a second hand AC adaptor from yer olde second hand computer shoppe. Then run it enough to back up all your files, especially your player file (and probably other important stuff). Or buy a new AC, and sell the whole laptop to yer olde shoppe after you've backed up.

With regard to hold ID and other magic, I'd suggest you talk to our local wizards (mrimer or Stefan).

Picture attached. Note that the SE clone can just walk up to the exposed water, turn right and hit the pressure plate that releases the platform.

...and here's a copy of the hold. All I did was copy it and change the edit privileges to Anyone, so Jacob can easily reclaim it.

Thanks for that! Looks like a wall went missing somewhere along the way. Not sure how that happened.

Edit: Easiest fix would be to stick a tile of water along the path that leads from the bottom right mimic to the last pressure plate. It blocks that path, but does not affect the briar timing as I've set it up (and it took me ages to make the timing tight enough to be challenging but not too tight).
I'll endeavour to do this, one way or another.
