Wow thanks that really helped, this room concept is so new to me it is going to take a while for me to do this one, I think.

I am confused about the lab room 1N1W, I think this may be an interpretation issue. I don't know if you need a separate fuse/bomb for each potion or that you need choice of several fuse/bomb arraignments and choosing one gives you access to all the potions. After I built it based on the first idea I reread it and then thought maybe the second was what it was describing. Which one is right? :~(

Either. It's all how you interpreted it. That's what will make playing the holds fun, seeing how everyone else interpreted the story. So just do whichever way seems right to you.

Actually, my interpretation was different to either of those two.

[Edit: Oops, probably not right either.]
[Edit: 6 rooms done.]

and, one more room to go, Give us another goody!

Can you clarify if we'll have 2 or 3 days for--

> aesthetics
> play through
> unintended solution testing

I think we should have some type of hold naming convention like
COPYCAT <entrant's username>
My hold would be named 'COPYCAT larrymurk' for instance.

I think a convention is a good idea. That way they all appear together on our holds lists in-game if the first letter is standardized, and even if not we know which ones in the huge are entries for this contest. I'm for it.

On the other hand, I'm not so much in favor of the sixth room. At least, I wasn't at first. Now I have a fairly good idea what to do. Do you really want me to script a bunch of lights to turn on when the player steps away from the edge, though? Or was that just for the story?

The idea behind that was he stepped on a vision token, making the evil eye's sight lines light up. All right: The naming convention shall be "Copycat: YourName".

Umm, are you allowed to make a room unrequired/secret? (One of my rooms turned out a bit harder than the rest, and it feels a bit unfair to leave it required. :|)

Also, I support Larry's suggestion of up to three days extra to polish up the holds. That way we would get a better result overall.

There's nothing in the rules stating all the rooms have to be required.

(you could include a demo, so that voters can still see what was intended. I already don't fancy my chances completing levels by all the architects in a limited time period)

Speaking of rules, how are we to judge? And what are the prizes?
And where do we post the finished holds, etc?

I'll make a new topic where you can post completed holds. Holds will be judged by whether they met the criteria for building them, and also by how you would judge a regular hold - how fun it was, aesthetics, etc.

Since this is an official contest, prizes are the same as all those:

100 rank points and a pick from the prize pile for winning.
50 rank points for coming second.
25 for coming third.

Beethro, upon entering the seventh room of the dungeon, was very surprised at the number of rock giants he saw facing him. Truly, it was not so many as to be incredibly difficult to kill them, but rock giants are not as common as most architects would have smiters believe. One complication was that there was a large collection of small pits scattered around the room.
This would not be a tremendous complication except for the fact that there was also aumtlichs in the room, but hidden behind yellow doors. To complete the room, he would have to release them.

Beethro knew that in order to beat the room, he would have to use the rock giants, but how?
This room is 2N.

Map:
....[]....
.17.20.19.
.16.15.18.
....14....

Good luck!

Finally rock giants...hahhaha..... :lol

I like both the name convention, and the days for clean up, but the ':' in the name may give us a problem.

Can we go ahead and create the exit stairs, too? Or will the room have a special feature?

True, I really haven't seen much use of rock giants. This one could be tricky for me, but I think I have an idea...

A rock giant would have been an interesting choice for the anonymous monster in 2N1E, as well.

If judging is going to be based partially on the specifics of the rooms' qualifications, I guess I'd better work on my arguments for my choices, too. On, 1N1W in particular, it looks like I just took the general idea and ran with it. And aesthetics! I put a lot of emphasis on that in my 'Practicality' entry, but this time I've almost forgotten it completely!

Also, the exact deadline has not been made clear, but I can understand if you haven't decided yet.

Done and submitted.

Things you might do before submitting your entry.

-Add checkpoints
-Leave as 'anyone edit' for easier testing by other players
-Replay entire hold
-Make hold look 'prettier'

May everyone produce lovely, fun entries!

That checklist is surprisingly similar to my to do list this morning. Especially after my AE hold, I really put an effort into placing checkpoints intelligently. I've finished now, but I think I'm going to hold back for a bit and see if anything spontaneously occurs to me overnight.

From this post, we have 29:14 or so to go.

We only get a day and a half to vote? :w00t Is that normal? I was expecting, y'know, a week or something. Enough to give everyone time. As it is, only those following the contest actively will have any chance at all.

Demos for my hold.

I hope I did this right.

I think it would be great if everyone can post their demos. It should make judging much better. Some rooms I've completed but would love to see the intended solution and some rooms I still need help.
