Does this mean that if anyone (Vigilante, Serial Killer, Mafia Executioner, etc.) tries to kill the Hider when they're hiding behind a person, that second person dies instead? I haven't heard of this role before.

You are correct, Chaco, but with an addendum. If the Hider hides behind the SK or the Mafia, the Hider dies.

does the hider have to hide?

The problem with all these extra roles are that they are another clog that the machine is dependant on, thus more likely to drag on the length of the night. KISS is a good principle.
