Ok, first round is through, and here are the stats.

Hmm... the contest could use some reworking. For a longer contest, how about making only those in the option with a plurality drop out?

Yikes, that's everyone but three people already knocked out! Sure makes the game go faster, but it certainly leaves a lot of the people out.

No, it isn't over yet.

And yes, this contest definitely could do with some reworking, this is simply an idea that I'm messing around with. So far I like the concept, but I'm stuck as how to make it so that the randomness is reduced and the level of logic increased.

Oh boy, I misread the rules and thought that I was trying to pick the most common, not the least common.

Not that the knowledge would have helped me, since I picked ! Woohoo!

Edit - this may have partially been the inspiration for this game, but have you heard of Singularity? (Or whatever its called). Where everyone picks a positive integer, and the smallest unique one wins.
A 'rare entries' contest was also common on rec.puzzles, where you answer trivia questions and score points based on how few other people guess the same as you.
Maybe somehow you could have more general 'answers', and have something similar to one of these concepts?

Exactly! Everyone tries to avoid the one they think would be most popular, which is how you inadvertently ended up the winner!

I chose -- I guess that makes me or the other "wooters" a swing vote -- if any of us had chosen anything else in this game, all the others in that group would have won or tied this round.

Idea for new rules: instead of keeping the smallest group, why not remove the largest one? The point is still the same and games do not last less than 2 rounds anymore.
