Is there an active voiceacting competition? In that case where? Or is the voices already filled in? Or isn't there even going to be another Drod game?
I need to know if I have to buy a microphone or not.

See that : http://forum.caravelgames.com/viewtopic.php?TopicID=15811

I have understood 3.0 it's the last DROD relased. The story will continue in a simple SmS.

Not quite Neather2, not quite... you'll see when you finish the game...

What is lower... than Lowest Point? (This is supposed to be a clue for the name of DROD 4)

Dear Dex,

There is in fact a minimum size to the size tag. You reach it in one use of the tag. You fail for using it about /fifty times/.

Less than three,

Banjooie.

These aren't 50... they're 500(I counted :P). And would you be so kind as to delete that post, so as to keep the mild possibility that some people don't notice what's there? (I shall naturally delete this post also).

The fact that there are 500 doesn't make it any better. The fact that it's bright yellow pretty much kills any chance of someone not noticing it.

The plans for the future are still unclear; there are different options but it will be a while before it's decided how exactly the story will continue.

In any case, there's no new voice recruitment going on right now, and it will be a while before the next time voices are needed.

That's a shame. I would have enjoyed recording a few files for the next DROD game. I've even got the necessarily quality for playing a villain...

...I'm British :P

Do you really think that voice-acting would start now anyway? :huh

They haven't even sent out CD's of TCB yet, I'm sure that they haven't even finalized what is going to go into the next game, let alone being far enough into programming it that they would even consider finalizing the script for voice-acting!

I really would like for there to be more voice acting opportunities around here. I'm not sure why authors don't more often try to include voice acting in their holds. It's easy to post something on the "Architecture" board asking for some acting help.

There is another DROD Film Festival coming up soon, which is about DROD-based machinema. I'd be in favor of running it as a two-parter again, with one month to make voiceless holds, and the following month to add voices.

For official Caravel projects, Smitemaster's Selections would be the next thing, but that will be some months. The upcoming Smitemaster's Selections are going to have important story events in them that we formerly reserved for the full-length games. As has been said, it will likely be years before the next full-length DROD game.

One possible reason would be that a lot of it's because it's the "easiest" part of the hold. Once you've plotted out the hold, got all the puzzles in place, got everything set up, and a storyline with lots of different characters generally making it rather cool... then you usually have the voice acting left over at the end. Not a challenging task, but a long one, especially the editing to remove noise, get all the snippets in place and add them into the NPC scripts. And at that point you just want to get the hold out, not spending any more time on it.

That, and no one can do a good Beethro voice besides Sten, take a look at Odd Jobs for example.

That doesn't mean we can't try.

And with TCB out, why does it have to be Beethro anyways?

Just for the record, I'm always game for any voice-acting oppurtunities.

Maybe good Beethros are hard to find, but I bet there are plenty of good NPC voices around. I'd like to think mine's one (and if I ever really had time for it I might try my hand at creating a mad scientist's lair of sorts, with me as the mad scientist taunting you over the loudspeaker every so often and finally showing up in person on the last level). And really, if there are any opportunities to try out for some voiceacting I'm game as well.

OK. But if there is a voiceacting-competition sometime can someone please PM me about it? I would be most pleased.

I like to voice-act as well, but with my microphone missing, and my voice breaking (for the second or third time.) this past week, now wouldn't be a good time. :D

I could probably do voice-acting, and, in fact, for the same reasons I entered the #1 Fan Contest, I will say that I am /awesome/ at it.

Practically, though, if you have a lot of voice-acting it tends to bloat up the filesize a lot. TCB is better than JtRH in that you can re-use sound files, but sound files are just... really really big.

Not if you compress them appropriately - ogg files aren't too bad.

Oh, and on this very subject - I'm following Erik's suggestion, and currently asking for a little bit of voiceacting for my almost-complete hold on the Architecture board. So if you were wanting to get some practice in... here's a good opportunity. Also after betas, but that's unrelated.

I personally try not to because voice acting is freaking gigantigargantuollosalopanoramihuge in how it multiplies the size of a hold.

Though, for the record, a new DROD film festival thing would be awesome, because the cutscene stuff makes it much less awkward to work with. As does the variables.
