Here's one that truly blows my mind. First off, check out this little black and white picture, here. Nothing to it, eh? Go ahead and open it up in a new window, just so you can isolate it from the upcoming image.
Now, take a few minutes and stare at these colored pictures:
Doesn't matter if you stare at any one point, just spend about 3 minutes really letting them soak in. Afterward, go check out that original white and black picture.
You will see a green haze around the horizontal lines, and a magenta haze around the vertical lines. It varies between people, but for me, it's staggering. Plus, it's been known to last for more than just a few minutes. Typically, it lasts for a few hours.
It's called the McCollough Effect, and no one knows exactly how or why it works.
