I'd like to make a hold in which you would walk up to a character, it would say something, complete a specific room, go back to the same room with the character in it; and the character would say something differen't.

But not just a specific room in the level you can implent into, you can choose any room in your entire hold.

Thoughts?

This would be nice, but it would have to be coded into TCB or DROD 4.0, because of the massive coding it would require.

It's not possible yet. But it can be "approximated".

Have you played the "Metroid Prime" hold? Or "Odd Jobs"? Or "Wrong Way"?

(Edit: I don't want this feature.)

I've actually thought about this (as an "in theory" concept). In my choo-choo train of thought, I had thought of checking for individual characters. If a character, visible or not, exists at so and so a point in a certain room in a certain level, then do something. There is a way to check for whether the required rooms in a level are completed. (Check for blue door open.)

For this feature, all I can think of is Beethro passing though the room at a different point and having the character end its script. When that character is not there, another one takes it place.

But yeah, it's impossible. Frankly, this isn't a feature I would advocate, although it would have its pros.

See AlefBet's sig.

I don't really think a way of making what happens in one room depend on what happens in other rooms is a very good idea. Blue doors is one thing, but anything more than that probably would just go against the style of the game a bit.

Its still possible to do what you want, usually, as Tim said, with different room entrances/extra stairs/etc. I think thats the best way to go, although it doesn't look quite as nice from the players point of view.
