Ack, actually, I meant to respond to your other question...I messed up. I wanted to let you know that the admins do quite a lot of things so fast that most people don't even realize that there was a problem, unless they get e-mail notifications of every single board. Still, it is an extremely outdated question from a long time ago...there definitely isn't a need for new admins right now.

Game on,

I have, as a matter of fact. I used to live in a tiny town called Charlemont which is 30 miles from Greenfield. We lived on a mountain overlooking the deerfield river which ran parrallel with route 2. man was it awesome.

here I go, getting nostalgic. ;)

Hello, everybody.
I've been playing DROD (which I keep mentally pronouncing "drood", heaven knows why) for, what, four or five days now?, and I can see that having a real life is going to be a real problem from here on out . . .

Anyway, I've been browsing the (frighteningly active) forum lately too, and thought I'd introduce myself:

Real name: Kate <anonymousmumble>
Location: Washington, DC, US
Age: 34
Hair: Brown
Eyes: Brown
Height: 5'5"
Job/Grade/College: ex-philosophy grad student, current admin assistant
Favorite Type of Music: classical chamber & choral music
Favorite Movie: Antonia's Line
Favorite Author: lots
How long have you been playing DROD for?: see above
Ever beat DROD?: I live in hope.
If not, how far are you?: Um, can't remember off-hand (I've been hold-hopping); 6 or so, I think.

Oh, and while I'm here: anybody got any hold recommendations for a newbie? I'm finding it a little hard to wade through the list & sort out the useful (for me) from the not-useful (aka the-more-than-minimally-difficult).

Grade: Junior in high school
Favorite Music: My preference is techno or mod/xm music; I think rock and roll is okay; rap is very disagreeable to me.
Favorite Movie: Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom
Favorite Author: Stephen King
How Long Have You Played DROD: I started in September of 2005, so I guess I've played for two years. Wow, all that time wasted spent!
How'd you find DROD: Oneiromancer introduced it to me on the N forums.
Have you beat DROD: I've mastered some pretty nasty holds - particularly all three Big Official Holds (KDD, JtRH, TCB), Claythro Tower, all MetDROiD holds, both Witherwood holds. Name any hold and I've either mastered it, beaten it or gotten quite far in it. Or, uh, not played it, in some cases. Drat.
Dog Person or Cat Person: Neither. The cat did not appreciate our love and was rather grouchy, often scratching us. We had to put it to death. I don't much like our dog.

Absolutely.

One of my ancestors was a member of the French Catholic Church - Holy Trinity (Trinite Sacre) in the late 18th century and unhappy on the incompetence of tax collectors, and after the failure of taxing windows, manufactured the tax on sin, also known as the sin tax.

This was always based on the 7 sins, and so if one had sinned for both greed and prejudice for example, they would have to pay 2 gold coins to the Church after the confessional.

In his honour, each successive eldest son would always be known as Syntax. And each middle name would succesively be one of the seven sins. My father, for example, was called Syntax Pride.
Alas, the lack of foresight meant that upon naming myself (being the 8th in line) my parents got a name overflow exception and thus named me Syntax Error.

Needless to say, the whole tax idea failed as no-one turned up for confessionals any more, so they went on to tax doors instead as people couldn't brick them up...

Real name: Evan.
Location: Adelaide, South Australia.
Age: 25.
Hair: Brown.
Eyes: Brown.
Height: 180cm.
Job/Grade/College: My employer calls me an IT Support Officer, but the junk mail which comes to me at work includes IT Support, System Administrator, Network Manager, Chief Acronym Collector and Supreme Overlord (I love screwing with mailing lists). Sysadmin/netadmin is probably the best description.
Favourite movie: Donnie Darko, followed closely by Series 7.
Favourite book: Mistress of the Empire by Raymond E. Feist and Janny Wurts.
Favourite author: Raymond E. Feist.
Favourite game: Planescape: Torment.
Favourite band: Right now I guess it's Something Corporate. It changes.
Favourite song: Black Dress by Kisschasy. So beautiful, yet so very wrong.
Favourite type of music: Umm... my CD collection is split between rock/punk/pop-punk/emo stuff (Blink 182, Dropkick Murphys, Fall Out Boy, Houston Calls, New Found Glory, Something Corporate, The Living End, The Starting Line, Yellowcard etc), instrumental/atmospheric stuff (Silver Mt Zion, Godspeed You Black Emperor, Explosions In The Sky etc) and a bunch of other stuff that doesn't neatly categorise in relation to the rest of my collection.
Do you hate naming favourites? Not as much as I hate trying to describe my music taste in two or three genres.
Does the end justify the means? Rarely.
How long have you been playing DROD for? About 3 years, with a 30-month DROD-less hole in the middle.
Ever beat DROD? Yup. Both KDD and JtRH.
Favourite levels: KDD 20, 21, 24, JtRH 13, 14, 20.
Least favourite levels: KDD 11, 13, JtRH 16, 24.
Cat or dog person: Neither. I'm allergic to both.
Origin of username: The imaginary Capt. Tuttle invented in an early episode of M*A*S*H. Not at all related to the Harry Tuttle in Brazil, although I've since seen the movie several times and rather liked it.
Hobbies: Pool, croquet and theatre.
What is your ultimate goal in life? That question implies a degree of long-term planning I'm uncomfortable with. Even "what are you doing next weekend?" is normally a tough one.
What are you doing next weekend? Rehearsing for the upcoming production of A Man For All Seasons. I said "normally a tough one."
Sweet or savoury? Sweet.
Do you program? Yeah. Mostly Perl, Visual Basic, VBScript and PHP, but I can manage C, Java, Ada and TCL given enough time to look up references.
If you were to be trapped on a desert island with one person, who would you choose? Somebody important enough to get rescued.
If you could describe your personality with one word, what would it be? If I could do that, it wouldn't be my personality. Who picks these questions?
Three things you probably don't know about me are...
1. I dream DROD. Really. I've lost count of how many rooms I've solved lying in bed at night.
2. I'm good at remembering random bits of info, including my credit card numbers, people's phone numbers, and exactly what you said 5 months ago and were hoping everyone else had forgotten. I'm hopeless at remembering important stuff, like recording TV shows while I'm out or what I'm supposed to be doing for people at work.
3. I spent two weeks in New Zealand and came back with an accent that took months to shake. Sweet, eh bro?
What makes DROD so great in your opinion? Well, it's addictive. I'm not so sure if that's a good or bad thing though.

Do you program? Is HTML/CSS a programming language?
If you were to be trapped on a desert island with one person, who would you choose? Thats a toughie, but im gonna have to go with a reliable friend, so we can try to survive while trying to get off the island.
If you could describe your personality with one word, what would it be? Shy

Real Name: Mike
Location: Seattle
Age: 43
Hair: Blond
Eyes: Blue/green/grey, depending on mood and lighting
Height: 6'3" or 190 cm
Job/Grade/College: Author / writer.
Favorite Band: tie between Yes, Rush, and Peter Gabriel.
Favorite Type of Music: classical, jazz, rock, progressive, ambient. Depending on my mood, nearly anything except country-western and rap.
Favorite Movie: Casablanca, Amadeus, Brazil, LOTR, Empire Strikes Back, Holy Grail, Fish Called Wanda, the list keeps going....
Favorite Book: LOTR cycle, "A Song of Ice and Fire" cycle
Favorite Author: I will read anything by Harlan Ellison, George R.R. Martin, and Dan Simmons. I also have a fondness for "the Russians" -- Tolstoy, Dostoevsky, Gogol, Pushkin -- and I'll probably love Victor Hugo based on what I know of his writings.
Favourite Programming Language: The one that is properly debugged so my programs don't crash.
How long have you been playing DROD for? Couple of weeks.
Ever beat DROD? No, but I'm only on L3.
Should Erik or Clayton make you an Admin? If nominated, I will not run. If elected, I will not serve. I've run a BBS and been admin for various internal Web sites. I'm done with administering public resources.
Cat or Dog person: Cats all the way. My wife has worn me down to where I'll accept a Bernese Mountain dog some day.
What is your ultimate goal in life? As the Arabic saying goes, "Man plans, God laughs." Personally, I'm going to live forever or die in the attempt.
Favorite Game: Any of the old Infocom games, especially the Zorks and Stationfall.
Sweet or savory? Savory.
If you were to be trapped on a desert island with one person, who would you choose? My wife.

Three things you probably don't know about me are...
1. I have the uncanny ability not to be noticed when I want.
2. I nearly hit a channel marker during a 2 a.m. to 6 a.m. watch on a sailboat delivery.
3. I am equal parts elitist, anarchist, and law-abiding citizen.

What makes DROD so great in your opinion? Not only is it a great blend of turn-based strategy, adventure, and puzzle-solving, but it doesn't take itself too seriously.
