I tried running RPG and it also crashed.

I don't know how to get the crash log. Lamkin, could you please tell me how to access it so I can also post it?
Edit: Nevermind, found it. And TCB also crashed:

I just downloaded Gunthro and the Epic Blunder and the game crashed, with what looks like a very similar error to what's already been posted in this thread:

I'm not sure if there's anything I can do about this, but I thought I would at least add my name to the list.

As mentioned in another thread, have you tried running it with the 'nofullscreen' parameter at launch?

Thanks. I need to know more about your system. The game runs fine on some people's systems, and I'll need more information than just that the game crashed in order to fix this. The crash log tells me what library/component is having the issue, but it doesn't point me toward a solution.

How about let's start by sharing what "About this Mac" displays on the Apple menu.

Yes, this works for me. :smile
I posted this also in that other thread, but I'll post it here as well: Open Terminal and type:
open -a DROD-GatEB-64bit --args nofullscreen

Edit #1: I suppose it's worth noting that you'll only need to do this once; you can double-click the GateEB application from then on and it'll open in windowed mode.

Edit #2: Mucho thanks to Keiya for the proper command for opening an app in windowed mode, and thank you mrimer for the suggestion to use that command line parameter.

Just tried that now; the game works as expected!

Sure! Let me clarify one thing about my initial bug report: rather than crashing immediately, the game launched to fullscreen, made it all the way to the "closed door" screen, and then crashed after that with the reported bug.

My "About This Mac" screen:

Mac OS X Version 10.6.8
Processor: 2.66 GHz Intel Core i7
Memory: 8 GB 1067 MHz DDR3
Startup Disk: Macintosh HD

I think you'll probably be more interested in my video card information, though:

On a hunch, I decided to see what would happen if I launched DROD 4.0 in windowed mode, then went to the settings screen, enabled fullscreen mode, and set the changes. As expected, DROD crashed, but gave more interesting information about what methods of SDL failed:

This happened consistently every time I tried it (i.e. after the first time this happened I followed the same steps and got exactly the same error message).

Hopefully this is of some use in figuring out what's going on.

I think I've resolved the bundling issues that were causing the latest PPC DROD builds that I posted here to crash.

To confirm this, here's a PPC build of the DROD4:GatEB demo version. Please try it out on any Mac OSX system supporting PowerPC apps (pre-10.7, right?). If it runs correctly for you, I'll put it on the website and make the full version available for download and purchase also.

Ugh. Not at all what I was expecting, of course.

I'm not sure how to interpret that error log. I'm not understanding what the point of failure was.

If you need further testers, let me know. I know you guys are always struggling with the OSX Version a bit, so I´d be glad to help.

I´m on OSX Lion 10.7.3. This OS does not support PPC Apps anymore.

Tada! Here's a new DROD TCB demo for 64-bit Intel OSX. This is built nearly identically to the 64-bit build of GatEB for OSX, so this should work for everyone who is also running that game. Please try this out to see how it runs for you.

It works for me running OS X Snow Leopard (10.6.8), but it has the same problem that Mac GatEB had with crashing when trying to run fullscreen. So I opened Terminal and typed:
open -a DROD-TCB-64bit --args nofullscreen

Then it worked fine in windowed mode. (And I assume the demo will run under OS X Lion as well.)

Works fine for me on OS X Lion, in fullscreen too. I seem to be the only one on whose Mac fullscreen is working correctly though, don't know what that's all about.

Thanks, guys! I'll make sure the game starts up in Windowed mode like GatEB so some players don't automatically run into the full screen issue...whatever it is...

Here's an updated build of TCB for 64-bit Intel OSX. It should now not start up in fullscreen for a fresh install. If you're already playing in full screen, it will continue to start up that way. Would you please test this out one more time? If it's good, I'll make this version available on the CG site for download, and make the full version available to those who purchase the game.

I'm also trying out building a 64-bit Intel OSX build of JtRH and KDD 2.0. The 2.0 codebase is older, naturally, so it required a small bit of upgrading to make it 64-bit compatible. Here's a demo version of JtRH. Would you open this up and try navigating through the various game screens to see whether everything appears to be looking and running correctly in general?

Yeah, this worked fine for me, sir.

Well, The JtRH demo is crashing because of the fullscreen issue, but using Terminal to open it in windowed mode worked. Yes, everything appears to be looking and running correctly.

This part is strange -- I did have it so that if you're starting the game up fresh, with no player data, that it should not start full screen. However, if you have preexisting data with a player that had the game set to use full screen, it will keep using that setting, since it was specified in the player settings. Can you elaborate on the state of your DROD RPG demo player data?

That makes sense, then, because, though I'd deleted the DROD RPG demo .app itself, I'd never deleted the drodrpg-1_0-demo folder with the .dat files. So when the RPG demo started up, my player data was already there. So, my fault. Sorry. :look

Ah, not a problem. Thanks for checking -- that's great to know. So...players who are upgrading their installation will need to know about this caveat. New players shouldn't have an issue with startup. I'll mention this in the Illumination when announcing the 64-bit builds.

I'll post the full installers for download as soon as I can, sometime this week, I expect.

Update: I've uploaded 64-bit Intel OSX demo versions to the CG site for download for KDD 2.0, JtRH, TCB and DROD RPG. I've also added links to purchase these versions through the site, and added links to the Downloads page for registered users to download these new builds to try out.

If you already have player data using fullscreen mode, and the game doesn't start for you on your Mac, try this:

Open Terminal and type:
open -a DROD-TCB-64bit --args nofullscreen

(or whatever the name of the app is)

Then uncheck "Full screen" mode in the player settings so you don't have to do this anymore.
