icon The Untold Tales of Gunthro Budkin - Voting (+2)
Here is the voting thread for the November contest: The Untold Tales of Gunthro Budkin. Entries were placed in a random order.

Voting Criteria:

Voting has two parts: fun/quality and Gunthro-ness.

Take your usual out of 10 fun/quality rating and cut it in half, giving you a score out of 5.

Then add up to 5 additional points based on how well you felt the contest entry fit the theme of the contest.

Possible factors for these 5 additional points include:
*Did the entry use elements that were in the main Gunthro hold?
*Did it then introduce one new element on top of that?
*Was the level a good introduction to this new element, and were the puzzles all based around it in some way?
*Was the difficulty relatively low? (1-4 brains was suggested in the main contest thread.)

For your reference, here is a list of all the elements used within the main Gunthro and the Epic Blunder Hold:

Disclaimer:

Due to the relatively low number of entries received, I decided to include my entry in this compilation instead of waiting for the final compilation. My entry will still be marked as a bonus entry in the final compilation, and won't be included in the final rankings. If I happen to win anything here, I'll be skipped in the prizes and the other entrants will be bumped up, since I'm not comfortable with the idea of getting a prize from my own contest.

I'm posting a demo set just in case anyone needs it. Since the difficulty was supposed to be Gunthro level, most of these rooms are pretty reasonable, but there were a few tricky ones here and there that folks might want demos for.

Also, here are some thoughts about the entries under unhide tags.

Alright, now that voting's all done I'm manually posting my comments (since they're in text form and I don't want to format them with the forum's BBcode).

Overall impressions: Some solid entries in this competition, but each one had some minor bits I wish were polished better, and there wasn't any one I singled out as wowing me so well that I wanted that one entry to win the competition above all else.

Still, had a real fun time playing each and every one of these.

I'm genuinely surprised that so many people found The Orthogonal Road: 4S1E so difficult and/or thought the intended solution was an unintended one. To me it seemed like a really obvious, easy-to-stumble-upon thing.

More specifically (solution spoiler I guess?):

If you had trouble getting into 4S1W, I think at least one person's comments alluded to it, but the trick is to

I thought of it as a "have to think to find it" secret room rather than a "significantly harder than the level" secret room, if that makes any sense.

The results are in!

In first place is disoriented for The Warm Place. That's 100 rank points and a pick from the prize pile.
Second place is a tie between PigmyWubba and Xindaris for Immersed Sanctuary and The Orthogonal Road respectively. They each earn 50 rank points.
Third place goes to Nuntar for Running the Rapids. That's a 25 rank point prize.

The Commander's Crypt was disqualified since it was my entry, and Stone Canyon was disoriented's second entry so it can't win anything.
