Wow, that's a connoisseur's take on DROD, with solid analysis. I enjoyed reading your thoughts. Thanks for writing this up and posting it!

Er, thanks, I guess. Actually, reading the comments over again, I think the tone is pretty informal and there were a few cases where I wrote very short paragraphs without explaining myself very well. Still, this was essentially a snapshot of what my first reactions were when I was playing each of the entries, so I'm glad that people are specifically interested in my opinions.

Oh yeah, I should be reading other people's comments now, too.

I agree with mrimer, it was really enjoyable reading chaco's comments and everyone's else comments.
Now that the contest is over I realized something:
Some of you tried to guess which architect built a specific hold and when I read that I've been confused to some great architects and that many of you liked and enjoyed my hold I understood that this is the most satisfying thing I could ever achieve so I'm really happy about it!

And congratulations to the winners! (though we don't know them yet)

Oh, wow! The contest is over! I suppose I should really like, talk about prizes and who's who and stuff! Been pretty sick the past week, and lots of work stuff.

HOWEVER, we can still talk about winners.

This is going to get weird.

Let's start with names, folowed by average score, then median score.

Sixth Level - blorx1 6.57, 6

Museum of Modern Architecture - Lucky Luc 8.29, 8

The Time Capsule - Shendy 7.05, 7

What Could Have Been - navithmastero 6.62, 6

Familiar Places - Vladilav (disqualified) 3.81, 3

Four Ages of Budkin - Jacob 7.71, 7

Memories... - Suwako 7.33, 7

!praW emiT - Dischorran 6.10, 6

A Christmas Carol - Someone Else 7.43, 7

Four Rooms - da rogu 7.29, 7

History Of Drod - D.Craven_One 8.19, 9

Back In Time - Chaco 8.24, 8

Through The History - Mxvladi 7.1, 7

DHM-[censored]-1L1 - BoyBlue 8.19, 8

The Living Tar - PMIT 7.67, 7

Tribute To Major Release - Red XIII 7.57, 7

Rankings:

By Arithmetic Mean, the winners are

1st Place: Museum of Modern Architecture, by Lucky Luc!
2nd Place: Back in Time, by Chaco
3rd Place (tie): DHM-[censored]-1L1, by Boy Blue, AND
History Of DROD, by D.Craven_One

However, when distributions of data are difficult to repeat (that is, the Central Limit Theorem does not apply to due lack of replication and sample size [n = 21] ), AND that data does not follow the normal distribution, is common to use a non-parametric approach to measure centrality, so that outliers don't have undue influence. This is particularly the case when data are very skewed, as is very much present in this contest.

D.Craven_One's entry is the winner under this consideration with the only score whose median is higher than his arithmetic mean, suggesting a startling abundance of 10's, and a few very low scores that managed to drag his entry down compared to his competitors. His kurtosis be whack, yo.

It is of my opinion to not let this go unnoticed as far as ranking is concerned.

Therefore, to assuage the masses who are used to standard mean ranking systems, I will provide D.Craven_One with a booby prize that mimics the 1st place prize in the singular regard of of getting a prize of your choosing from Steam (or similar) <= 15$, but without a song. Your entry was nothing to sneer at; you put an alarming amount of creativity and black humor into it that hit all of my smile-nodes, and stretched the concept of the contest into questionable territory that I feel was a worthwhile risk.

Very well done.

-----

Congratulations to everyone who won, and all who participated. I will get around to dispensing the prizes in a semi-timely manner, and get start uploading the Let's Plays when I can, so that all can see their entry puzzled over by me, to some degree, which will, hopefully suffice as my commentary and review :D .

Awesome contest. It was an epic contest! I hereby declare (not wanting to steal Pearls' thunder) that each individual who placed can select a prize from the Prize Pile if they want!

First of all, congratulations to the winners and thanks to Pearls for organizing this great contest! There were plenty of high quality entries from great architects here, and the thematically appropriate hub level definitely helped set the mood.

I won't give detailed comments on the entries; most of the things I would say have been mentioned by others and the notes I made as I played weren't terribly detailed either. Nevertheless, there were things I liked about each of the entries (even when I complained in the chat about them), with Back in Time being my favorite overall. History of Drod also deserves another mention for its unique and amusing interpretation of the official holds.

Being my first foray into architecture, this was a pretty nice experience, and I'll probably do some more in the future.

Speaking of which, PITM? Who the heck is that? :P

Thanks to Pearl to create this contest, it was really nice to take part in it. And of course congratulations to the winners :) . Happy to see that the effort of everyone is going to be rewarded, or already has been. Glad lot of people liked some room of my level.

I just want to say that I think "Museum of Modern Architecture" is extraordinary entry and I'm glad it won (it's also the only entry, aside from my own, which I gave a 10). Interesting idea, just right difficulty and very fun! It's also notable for tricking me into thinking that Chaco made it.

Other entries which I thought stood out from the rest are "4 Rooms", "Sixth Level" and "DHM".

In a way, "History of DROD" also stood out from the rest, but I ended up giving it not very high score (originally wanted to rate it 5, but changed my mind and rated it 6) as I think the point of the contest was different.

So. Well. Wow. Now that the contest's officially over and my secret identity is revealed, I finally get to say thanks for this amazing feedback. I really never expected my entry would be appreciated this much, and I really think I could have done better in some regards, so finding my entry on the second place after my votes and seeing how it even ended up with the highest average was a really big suprise. I also enjoyed reading some comments on my hold, both positive and not-so-positive. Being mistaken for both Chaco and Dischorran, two incredibly talented architects, was also quite flattering!

Congratulations to the other winners, too! As I said, I thought there were many very good entries, and I think all of the winning entries belonged to this group. I can now say that the extraordinary hold I was talking about was "History of DROD". I can see why it was a rather polarizing entry, as it didn't entirely meet the original contest specifications, but I thought the hommage and humour were just too great to dock any points for that. The GatEB room was a bit weaker than the others in my opinion, but the JtRH room alone made up for it.

Yeah, I think pretty much everything there is to say about the entries has already been said by Chaco (except for his own entry, maybe), but I'll still do a short summary of my votes (it's quite a shock to see how much my own votes influenced the results of the contest in the end, I hope my vote was relatively fair):
Click here to view the secret text

So, again, thanks to everyone participated or voted! This was a really fun contest both to construct for and to play, and being my first one, I guess it raises the bar quite high for what's to come. I hope that I'll be able to get one of my real holds promoted someday soon, too, so watch out for them if you enjoyed my entry ;) .

3rd place tie and a booby prize! :w00t
Now that that's out of the way, I'll try to be a tad bit more grown up.

So first, a few replies to the comments on my entry.(Under secret so people who aren't interested can skip)
Click here to view the secret text

Now a general explanation on my entry.(Under secret so people who aren't interested can skip. -Again-)
Click here to view the secret text

Now for all the thanks and such, I'm totaly not good at.

So first of all, thanks to pearls for the contest. It was a brilliant idea in my opinion. (despite the fact I managed to wonder of the given path.)
The caravel crew for making it an official contest. (I think that always helps when attracting competitors. Thus making things more lively.)
Everyone who participated! (As I said before I pretty much liked all of the entries)
The people who voted. (No seriously, thanks for looking over the fact that I've gone a little wild with this one.)
And the people who commented. (Positive and Negative, feedback is always wellcome.)

Hopefully that included everyone.

Congrats Time!
Congratulations to Lucky Luc, for the winning entry and a job well done!
To Chacko, for 2nd place, insight on the game, and well made analysis on the entries!
To BoyBlue, my fellow 3rd place with a proper entry!
To all who contributed to the contest! I think the resulting hold is fantastic.
Finaly to Pearls for a succesfull contest!

It was a fun ride. Didn't think I would score a place(thanks again for that). I'll try to stick closer to the rules next time around.
Hopefully this post didn't end up too "Pompous and Stupid".

It was (mostly) a pleasure to host a this (or any) contest! This actually started as a dare from Schik. We were chatting and I said "You know what might be a cool contest..." and he goaded me into making one by insulting my mother or something, and that's usually enough.

I've learned a lot, particularly about scripting and how to connect staircases :D, and some things about etiquette; Dischorran mentioned having less of an authorial presence as a host, and he's right. Hopefully not too much was lost in the process. I missed a few entry texts that were in the hold description and not the level description, which I'll be sure to update when I submit the final hold to H&A. In addition, komachi submitted a really cool entry a few days late, so I'll be sure to include that. And maybe one of my own!

Everyone who's won a prize, they're coming. PM me what you'd like, if the prize is something you get to select. Music is coming. It's tricky for me to find time to get over to University to record stuff, and frequently when I do find time, the end result is only an amalgamation of ideas that I'm not wholly satisfied with yet. Soon.

I'll begin uploading the LP of me shouting horrible, horrible things about your collective families as I try to puzzle out your entries.

Thank you all for your participation and feedback!

Bit late to comment on this (I forgot to earlier). Quite surprised that my entry wasn't rated much lower - the GatEB room was pretty bad (although to be fair, I haven't played GatEB and didn't have enough time to make anything better). My favourite entry was Back in Time. Thank you to Pearls for hosting such a brilliant contest. :)
