have managed to light the fuse, but the force arrows stop the explosion from reaching the bottom left guard

I think this room is broken? Bomb explosion behavior probably changed since the hold was released. Chaco should update his hold.

Yes, the bomb explosions are supposed to kill all four guards.

There is an update already planned for release for Patch Day. It still needs to be run through some paperwork and verification processes, however.

My hands are kind of tied - I submitted a fix for this back when the force arrow/bomb explosion logic was changed, but it hasn't finished going through the necessary channels yet.

Please be patient.

Okay, as mentioned in the Hold Updates for 3.3 topic, the Fireballs hold has been updated for DROD 3.3.

If you download the new version of the hold, the bombs will be repositioned so that now the bomb explosion should properly kill all four guards, and the room should work exactly the same as it did when it was first released.
