Well I got some feed back from one of you. I was very grateful and I didn't even bite. I am sorry if you got frustrated clicking so much but I did have fun and some seemed to like is a little. :weep

I still think the judging was all about the contest suggested. Maybe we need a contest suggestion contest so we can judge the layout. :rolleyes

Please hold off discussing the entries for another 10 hours or so people. We don't want to put a bias on the later votes.

Well, now that all the votes have come in, it is time to hand out the prizes.

First off we have our 3rd place, which was won by the Deadly Music of Death: The Contest. Thus a big congratulations to Tuttle with his entry.

Then we have, surprise surprise, our 2nd place prize. Congrats jbluestein for your Deadly Repasts of Death.

Now for the big tar mother of a prize. This and it's huge contents are dumped in a huge, gigantic heap infront of Syntax, with his wonderful entry, The morning after.

But that doesn't mean that all of you don't deserve a round of applause, so lets hear it for:
Stephen4Louise
Bingbing
Someone Else
techant
Maurog
calamarain
eb0ny
coppro and
Chaco

And again for:
Tuttle
jbluestein
Syntax

In case your forgot to the first time ;)

And finally to mrimer, who although clearly pointed out that he wasn't participating in the contest, managed to win out of the unoffical contests. Who knows what you might have gotten had you decided to tack on some rules...

But wait, just like Lord of the rings we're not over yet. Yes, there is still the best prize writeup award to hand out. So stand up once again Tuttle, and make your post in order to receive your prize. Why did you have to foil my plans and create a prize writeup that had a unique context. :(

Well this is actually kind of ironic, because in my contest I would have

* Band starts playing *

* Tuttle "accidentally" trips over cables while walking off stage *

* Tuttle plugs microphone back in *

*coughs* Anyway, congrats to Syntax and jbluestein; both were excellent entries. Although having fed myself this last week while the parents have been away, I can safely say I'd have a much better shot at Syntax's contest than jbluestein's. :)

Wow, thanks everyone! I had often thought of participating in a contest and am glad I finally bit the bullet - I'll no doubt take part in more now that my ego has been boosted (by the tightest of margins) ;) I do think all the ongoing bureaucracy speak may have reduced the overall turnout to this contest, but I really enjoyed writing my piece.

Congratulations to jbluestein and Tuttle for two excellent entries, and doubly so to Tuttle for his imaginative prizes :)

Also, congrats to mrimer for winning without taking part ;)

I thought there were some really clever and innovative ideas here which hopefully will get made into real contests in the future. Look forward to participating in more!

This was a fun contest. I think that Syntax is a most deserving winner, and Tuttle...well, let's just say I feel like I'm in good company and very proud of my second place result.

There were a lot of very good entries in this contest.

(I do kind of wish that voting had required you to take ideas into account along with the quality of the writing, because for me it's hard to uncouple the two. A good idea is intrinsically more interesting -- even more so if it's well-written, but I'd generally prefer a reasonably well-written, brilliant idea to a brilliantly written piece with an idea that's just OK.)

Josh

Hmm, fun facts:

• Syntax just won the first contest he entered.
• I also won the first contest I entered (The Angry Man).
• jbluestein almost won his first contest (also The Angry Man), losing by under four hours. So pretty close.

Anyone else fit that pattern? I don't really feel like checking every historical contest thread. :) (Although if someone did, little 1st/2nd/3rd markers in the participation list would be cool. Collecting 5 years of history would be a big job though.)

I guess I won the first contest I didn't enter.

I'm glad people enjoyed my entry. :)

I won all the contests I entered. People just didn't vote right to reflect that fact.
