silver was given an award for being a cool guy that doesn't ask for anything. His prize was to pick a song from DROD: Journey to Rooted Hold that would be released under a Creative Commons license. He picked Uncovered, so here it is! Do whatever you like with it as long as you credit me as the original composer. That's what the little logo off to the left of the attachment means.

w00t! :w00t

Maybe I really should get my behind in gear, dig out Cubase, Reaktor and co. (which have been collecting an awful lot of dust lately... :() and do a remix... :)

BTW - where's the CC icon you speak of? I dimly remember seeing it when choosing the license while posting, but after that it's nowhere to be seen.

I wonder if your principle of "don't ask" should apply here. He *did* ask for Uncover, so you ought to give him something else altogether. Then again, since I'm asking you for something, you shouldn't heed me, instead doing something else, and... Ad vitam eternam.

Now to make some sense: what sort of CC licence is it? I gather the licence is No Attribution, given your description, but CC is such a maze of various versions, options and bells and whistles.

I would guess free use of it as long as we accredit the original authour.

I forget which song that was, but I have to admit that all of them were very good and I will appreciate being able to listen to this outside of DROD.

EDIT:

This is the first Deep Spaces Puzzle song. Which I like. A lot. :)

I'm not going to do anything with this song besides listen to it in iTunes because I don't know how to properly compose electronic music.

Just putting that out there.

It does not. I used Audacity to convert it to .mp3.

I do that a lot with free games, such as Kenta Cho's shoot-em-ups.

Well, if the program he is using and probably is most comfortable with produces ScreamTracker modules, why switch?

True... but .it is an advanced version of .s3m, and most libraries that support 1 format support the other as well...

Yeah, I don't really keep current with music stuff. I'm using a very old, no-longer-maintained program called "Sound Club". It exports to S3M, but not IT. I'm not interested in making the time investment to learn a new program.

I tried using Audacity but it said it needed LAME? What is that and is there a way to get around that?

Grah! Please, guys, don't convert from one lossy format to another lossy format if you can help it. It only degrades quality. Even if you don't care, kittens do! Please, think of the kittens.

In stead, why not make iTunes play Ogg Vorbis ? Google told me how to!

Hey, I didn't know something like that existed... :/

EDIT:

Okay, it was a bit more complicated than you described, Trick - I had to go to a seperate download page on that site, download that, copy that to a directory in my system, and then...

iTunes shows a one-minute tune as lasting four seconds. It still plays the whole thing though. -_-

Awesome! But can you make iPods play Ogg Vorbis? Cause otherwise I'll still have to convert one lossy format to another.

Well, er, maybe if you're desperate enough ? But I did say "don't convert [...] if you can help it". If you've got no choice, then by all means, convert. (Or get a better player, perhaps ;))

Edit: Heh, I guess I offended someone. (That last sentence up there in the parenthesis was a joke, btw ..)

Not impossible, depending on the model. But if you have any encrypted music from the itunes store, you won't be able to listen to that; at least not without rebooting between firmwares or ... y'know ... converting from one lossy format to another.

[Note and declaration of ignorance: I'm a happy rockbox user, but not on an ipod. In fact, I've never used an ipod at all.]

Edit: More on topic, in this specific case you could also work from the .s3m file instead of the .ogg.

I downloaded Audacity and converted almost all of my oggs to wavs. But I still can't get it to convert to mp3 because I'm missing LAME. So I download LAME, and I still can find the file (lame_enc.dll?) that I'm looking for. Can someone help me?
By the way, thanks silver!
