This is a contest I have been thinking about have but never have had the courage. Here we go!

Technology

The point of this contest is to develop a piece of technology (a new monster, a machine, etc..) with the current scripting and objects.

Rules:

1. To participate:

- Must submit a hold with the piece of Technology before

Local Time:08-20-2006 at 04:00 PM

- That gives you one week.

2. This must be a hold entirely constructed by you never released before anywhere.

3. The hold may only have one level and not have more than 4 rooms.

4. Prizes:

1st Place: 30 rank points
2nd Place : 20 rank points
3rd place : 5 rank points.

These points will be donated by our forum mods. Thanks, guys!

I've already built something along these lines before this contest. Is it alright to submit it?

EDIT:

Also, it has not been released, although I submitted it to somebody for inclusion in a hold. This person did not get back to me.

Have you previously released it?

Or do you mean that you had already created a piece of technology that you plan to re-use in a new hold? The rules don't mention that case, so I guess it's up to Jason.

Well, I had created a piece of technology X. (I won't mention what it is, to preserve the idea and to generally not change the contest)

I had submitted it to Ezlo as an add-on to Big Wide World 2 (when he was working on it)

However, he never included it in the latest revision, and has now moved on to other things (such as the Community Project). This means that (technically) it was supposed to be released, but was not, in fact, released.

The release status of X is something I'd like to know, because it was nifty and I think would make a good example piece of technology for this contest.

EDIT:

Woops, post collision. As far as I know, you didn't Ezlo. I had no idea it was in.

I would say an actual implementation of a feature request should definitely be allowed - not if someone explained how to do it there, but if someone came up with a new way...

Schik will have to enable it for you. In terms of technology, do you mean like making a puzzle or something, or more in the sense of a widget?

Here's an example of a record player in DROD. This is not an official entry, just an example of what you can do with scripting.

I tweaked it from the version in Big Wide World so it could fit into the contest theme a bit more, as well as potentially setting up an area for the compilation (if somebody bothers to do one)

We use scripting to make some sort of DROD-gadget that's never been made before... right?

Well, I meant a heavily script-based puzzle, something that you wouldn't normally find in DROD. I could send you a sample.

Actually, Channel One Suite has a lot of scripting-based puzzles that still play like DROD. I think it's a gadget that Jason wants, not a puzzle.

Anyway, I'm working on my actual contest entry right now. It's pretty nifty, but right now it isn't working as intended for some reason or another. The fact that characters move in the order they were placed is annoying.

Four rooms is an awfully big tent. And you want bigger than that?

My room has a lot of characters in it... DROD unexpectedly quit when I pasted another character. I may have to reduce the size.

Actually, it's probably the undo history more than anything. Once it starts lagging, quit and reenter DROD. That'll clear up your memory. The large amount of script probably isn't helping though.

Got my entry done as well... It's nothing too spectacular, but... well, I'm not much of an architect yet, and certainly not any good at script yet. I'm happy with it, though.

I made a rocket launcher!

I made something even cooler because you can use it any way you like.

It's a mechanical chisel - IE the DROD equivalent of a drawing program. Utilizing crumbly walls, Citizen 1s, and mimics.

Anyway, I suppose I'll wait until the contest deadline to submit like everyone else is doing.

I don't intend to win this, I just used it as an excuse for myself to make guards blow themselves up.
