I solved this room and was very pleased with myself about how quickly I had done so, only to get 13th place. Hrmph. Then I downloaded the best solution for this room and watched it. I have one hint of my own about how to solve this room faster, I learned one hint from the fastest demo, and I have one question about something seemingly impossible from the fastest demo.
My hint about how to go faster, which may be obvious to everyone who has made it this far into the game:

×When attacking a large tar mother, don't try to clear all the tar. Instead of attacking a side next to a corner, attack a side in the middle, not next to any corner. This lets you dive deep into the tar to hit the eyes without generating tar babies.
A hint I learned from watching the fastest solution:

×When you kill one of the early tar mothers, as soon as you hit the last eye, you'll likely have several tar babies to clean up. It's natural to want to clean them up right away. Don't. Proceed to the next door that needs opening, letting the tar babies follow you. This way, you can get Halph moving on the next door while you clean the tar babies. If you're supremely efficient, you can do this even when the door is open -- it's possible to have tar babies left over from a previous tar mother while you attack a 2nd tar mother and be more efficient in how you clean up the tar babies.
Here's something I saw done in the fastest demo but I have no idea how to replicate it. It's a mystery, please help me solve it:

×The demo starts with Beethro entering the room via the entrance that is blocked with a green "kill all monsters" door, near the SE corner of the room. I have no idea how one can *enter* the room from that spot. You can't come through that spot from the other side unless you first enter through that spot, and you can't enter through that spot unless you first clear the room. Does it have to do with some sort of funky use of Restore? Or perhaps they were testing the room and using a function not in-game to enter from an illegal place?
